“Beautiful nature - Terrible sanitation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2008

The country is beutiful with nice nature, huge beaches, nice sand and above 90% sunny weather... but:

The pool was green because of bad sanitation.
The restaurant could not hold the many people there, every day something was missing, like plates, knives, forks, water and so on, the food was bad and they served the same food almost every day. Long time to get some food and a kitchen that had large sanitary problems, gave the restaurant lowest score possible.
The rooms had fungus spoors that made us ill. When we should leave, we could see fungus growing on our suitcases. The aircondition was very old and very dirty.

One night, I was even robbed by the police. They stopped me and checked all my pockets. Suddenly they just left and when I checked my pockets, all my cash was gone. 400 bolivera fuenes. Not that it was that much money, but it goes to show anyway I think.

Overall, the hotell Golden Paradice is not a hotel to visit. Startour , a company under TUI, gave both little and wrong information about the place and the entire travel.

There is a huge black marked on the island. If you travel with dollar or euro, you will pay half price for everything, and I mean everything. Doctors, hotels, restaurants, shops use this blackmarket prices. Only the banks give you normal exchange.
If you take out bolivares, you will get visa exchange that gives 2,15 bolivares for 1 USD. If you bring USD in cash, you can exchange it everywhere for 4,0 - 4,5 bolivares. So it is like double the money. Even hotels give 4,0 for the USD. This was not given any information about.

We were told that they would check the weight on our suitcases and would be very hard on us if we carried any more than allowed. They practically earns their money this way we were told. When we checked in, there wasn't even any weitght around. We could have carried double weight for all they cared.

I know that I am very critical in this info, but when you consider that we were 5 people, all got sick, a kid that dived into the pool had to go to the hospital and stay there, and all mentioned above, I just really needed to give others a warning.
If you gonna visit Isle Margarita, then chose another hotel and bring cash, either dollar or euro.

“perfectly located, quiet and lowprice hotell”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2008

Location: Only o couple of steps from the beautiful beach (some people can be bothered by the waves). Green mountains, beautiful nature.

Staff: Friendly!! Helpful and funny. Specielly one of the bartenders.

Food: Good. Both internationall and local. Tasty hamburgers servered between the lunh and dinnerbufeé. But after a couple of days you got a bit tired of it :).

Drinks and bars: 3 bars, open from 7 am till 11pm. One on the beach, perfect!! Strong and tasty drinks.

Party: Both the hotell and the area was calm, not a perfect location for people who want to party. It was said that the hotell should have eveningevents but the only thing was karaokenight ones a week. But I wasn´t there to party anyway.

Rooms: Simple but clean and with all that you need. Tv with about 50 channels, both in spanish and in english.

Free towells every day, both for the room and the beach. A gard was watching the hotell every night (wich was needed, a couple was robbed one night at the beach).
Taxi was cheep and it was easy to get around the island. A beautiful beach at La playa de Zaragoza. Juan Griego was a wonderful town witn a wonderful sunset!

The locals didn´t speak so much english so it´s good if you can speak a bit spanish.

A wonerful, still genuin place!

“Good value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2007

This 2 * hotel offers good value for money for travellers on a budget or for travellers who does not need all the facilities of a larger hotel.

The top floor rooms offer a small terrace and a sea view. Although the standard is outdated, it is still bearable for the price of 30 USD pr. Night. The price includes full pension and free drinks from the hotels two bars.

The hotel is situated just on the other side of a narrow road, which fronts the beach. The staff is all friendly, the food is good (!), the rooms and the hotel surroundings are kept clean and tidy although the aria begins to suffer from the fact that the facility is 20 years of age.

“Great Time”

First I say thanks to this site, for I got a lot of helpful info (especially the reviews) to make my vacation a success.

My Friends and I spent Easter weekend here. Overall its a great vacation expierence. The workers here are pleasant, always smiling and helpful.
You get your moneys worth, the place is clean, pools refreshing and the beach bar ideally located for your beach activities.
The beach itself was great - clean, plenty of seats and lots of activities to amuse oneself.

Food here was an adventure, new dishes, fresh fruits, great coffee (compliments to the Staff). The food was of a traditional type so you expierence something different from the normal fast food, after all you are in a foreign place you dont expect home food.

My room was ok, good enough for the time I spent in it. Always clean, ample water supply and air conditioning. Although once there was no electricity but was back within the hour. (Water and Electricity are supplied from the main land). My friends did not complain either.

Golden Paradise was like a Village for the weekend. We were made to feel at home, Gracias. We made lots of new friends - both guests and workers.
Everyone was just nice.

I would recommend this place for the easygoing traveller, looking for some peaceful time, its no Hilton buts its PARADISE.

Remember is what you make of your vacation, not what your vacation makes for you. :)

Anil.

“Excellent Value for Money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2006

I holidayed for two weeks at the Hotel Golden Paradise for $1536.00 Canadian including health and cancellation insurance and single room supplement.

The hotel was excellent. Unlike some of the others in this area, the Golden Paradise this is located directly on the beach. There are three bars, pool bar, dining room bar and a beach bar offering a fine selection of cocktails free and gratis from 11am to 11pm. There was a late night club named Woody’s about 500yds from the hotel for those who needed more booze. ($1.00 each) I liked the early closing as the hotel was quiet after midnight so you could listen to the crickets and the surf and not the clinking of glasses. The hotel has two small pools but who needs them as the ocean is on the doorstep.

As this hotel only has 90 rooms the place is never overcrowded - with plenty of lounge chairs and bar stools both on the beach and by the pools. This hotel does not cater for young children nor are there any animators trying to get you to sing karaoke or play silly games.

The restaurant offers a fine selection (buffet style) at all three meals per day. There was a wonderful chef on hand at breakfast to fry up your eggs any style but the speciality was their own omelette with tomato, onion, cheese and ham which was delicious. Fresh fruit and that wonderful Venezuelan coffee made the morning complete.

Lunch and dinner - excellent again, with a selection of beef, chicken, fish, pasta, potatoes ( mashed and fried) rice, salads ( try the tomatoes as they are tastier than anything we get in Canada. Must be the sun!) Big beefy hamburgers were also prepared on the grill at lunch for the North American tourists.

I had a beautiful room with a king size bed and very attentive maid service. The place was spotless. My friends also had good rooms although not all are the same. Although each room is the same size in area some are divided into small living rooms and/or kitchens. I had the best of the trio.

The company at the hotel was excellent. I made many new friends from Holland, Germany, France and Ontario who still keep in touch by e-mail.

To sum up, this is an adult hotel. Quiet, non-intrusive, well run and designed for a stress free relaxing holiday.

This hotel is Excellent Value For the Money. Remember the cost $1536.00CDN and most of that was insurance and taxes. I’ll be back!!

Andy
