The country is beutiful with nice nature, huge beaches, nice sand and above 90% sunny weather... but:
The pool was green because of bad sanitation.
The restaurant could not hold the many people there, every day something was missing, like plates, knives, forks, water and so on, the food was bad and they served the same food almost every day. Long time to get some food and a kitchen that had large sanitary problems, gave the restaurant lowest score possible.
The rooms had fungus spoors that made us ill. When we should leave, we could see fungus growing on our suitcases. The aircondition was very old and very dirty.
One night, I was even robbed by the police. They stopped me and checked all my pockets. Suddenly they just left and when I checked my pockets, all my cash was gone. 400 bolivera fuenes. Not that it was that much money, but it goes to show anyway I think.
Overall, the hotell Golden Paradice is not a hotel to visit. Startour , a company under TUI, gave both little and wrong information about the place and the entire travel.
There is a huge black marked on the island. If you travel with dollar or euro, you will pay half price for everything, and I mean everything. Doctors, hotels, restaurants, shops use this blackmarket prices. Only the banks give you normal exchange.
If you take out bolivares, you will get visa exchange that gives 2,15 bolivares for 1 USD. If you bring USD in cash, you can exchange it everywhere for 4,0 - 4,5 bolivares. So it is like double the money. Even hotels give 4,0 for the USD. This was not given any information about.
We were told that they would check the weight on our suitcases and would be very hard on us if we carried any more than allowed. They practically earns their money this way we were told. When we checked in, there wasn't even any weitght around. We could have carried double weight for all they cared.
I know that I am very critical in this info, but when you consider that we were 5 people, all got sick, a kid that dived into the pool had to go to the hospital and stay there, and all mentioned above, I just really needed to give others a warning.
If you gonna visit Isle Margarita, then chose another hotel and bring cash, either dollar or euro.
