We stayed in the new part of Minos mare beach resort, the Minos Mare Royal. It's exists from 2008, so its very new. This hotel is a part from the Minos Mare resort, but it's a 5 start hotel not a 4 star hotel. And it's worth it! We stayed a several places in Greece and this is the first time a 5 star hotel in Greece is really a 5 star. The rooms are big and luxurious, and the pool is very nice. We stayed on a Half Board basis. Breakfast was good, on sunday we had champagne breakfast. Dinner is starters and desert buffet and main course is a la carte, there was a lot of variety and it tasted very nice.
If you want to eat out, in the main street there are a lot of nice real greek taverna's (cheap too).
Beachbeds are for the people how stay at the Royal for free, there is a separate area for them. Also there is a bathrobe and slippers in the room and a free bottle of wine and fruit on arrival.
The only thing we did not like was the distance to Rethymnon, it's 4 km. But the bus stop is nearby the hotel. The city is nice, but Chania is much prettier, this is really a must see!
If you plane to got to Chania as well, go to Christina apartments!

The hotel was a great disappointment for. The room was very very very old, especially the bathroom was a nightmare. Dirty bath curtain, dark toilet, faucets full of salts and clogged siphons both in the sink and the bathtub.
We changed 2 different rooms and our friends another 2, there were all the same.
We asked for a 2 baby cots and they didn’t have a mattresses for the baby cots !!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway I think that this room is a room for a 2 stars hotel although the facilities, the outdoor of the hotel and the staff of the hotel were great.
My advice: don’t pay this room for the price of a 4star hotel it doesn’t worth your money.

we are a family with young kids.
we choosed this hotel for its location. by the beach with no road to cross .
with our BIG surprise the beach was not sandy but lots of stones, impossible to reach the sea from yr umbrellas without cutting yr feet!
everything else was very good, specially the food.
this hotel doesn't have room with ocean view as we have been talk by Apollo , our swedish travel agency.

We believe that the specific hotel was perfect in terms of value for money choice. People working there were very helpful and this is a general approach of the people in Crete. Management should do something with the Air Condition. We were lucky enough to have strong winds from north almost during the whole stay and this helped us in having a comfortable sleep. Otherwise...
