“Pleasant place”

Sepilok Nature Resort is a nice place. The rooms are slightly dated, but clean, large and the air-con is a welcome luxury after a day out in the humidity.

We found the staff to be wonderful, and the food was fairly basic but tasty.

As a lot of other reviewers have stated, the location is good for seeing the orangutans. It's an easy five minute walk to the reserve, and you can therefore check out the morning feeding time (10am), have lunch and relax at SNR, then come back for the 3pm feed (which is quieter, as there are less tourist buses).

The only complaint we had was that SNR was kind of difficult to book. For some reason, they don't seem to take bookings directly, and we had to go through a tour operator (even though we just booked the accommodation and didn't worry about any tours).

For a great experience, take a 25 minute walk from SNR to the Rainforest Discovery Centre - it's well worth it. We saw a pair of hornbills, and even though we're not avid bird watchers, we really enjoyed seeing these majestic birds flying through the forest. The raised walkway and towers are a good idea, and they give you a birds-eye view of the surrounding forest.

Room Tip: If you don't have any trouble walking, request rooms 17 and above - they are away from the recep...

“Good location for the orangutans”

This hotel is very well located for the orangatun sanctuary and a reasonable walk to the rainforest discovery centre. The setting is really nice and the rooms are large and well equipped. The food was ok but not great and they didn't have several items listed on the menu. The biggest problem with this place is it didn't have any atmosphere. The open dining area would have been a nice place to hang out and chat with other guests but it just didn't have the right atmosphere for this.

“Great for seeing orang-utans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

We stayed here for one night because its conveniently located close to the Orangutan sanctuary, so you can easily go visit at both feeds when they are more active. Rooms are basic but large and clean. Food was good if a little basic.

“Rooms lovely staff ( especially lady at front dest not)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

In fairness the rooms are lovely. Well our chalet was huge and modern. The food was only so so and our orders were mixed up. There was a lady at front desk who was really unpleasant and mean which was a bit uncalled for on Christmas day. Won't be staying again.

“What a fantastic experience!”

Sepilok Nature Resort is fabulously located just a couple of minutes walk away from the famous Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, so that you can easily walk there yourself to watch the afternoon feeding time, so avoiding the coach-loads of tourists who descend for the morning feed.

Accommodation is in pretty, decently-sized, en suite wooden huts located on the edge of the jungle. Service is friendly and good - they even pick you up from the airport. Food is pretty good too - you can choose from local or international.

They offer a great night walk in the jungle which we did and was great fun. They supply wellington boots and a talented spotter, and we were delighted to spot numerous animals ranging from a slow loris, to beautiful birds and a huge snake coiled in the top of a tree.

Visiting the Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre is a wonderful experience and the Sepilok Nature Resort is a great base to do it from.
