We booked this hotel as a holiday via Thomas Cook and chose Roda and the Pegasus for it's three star rating after staying on other Greek islands previously in studio apartments and fancied seeing what a bit more Greek luxury was.
The Pegasus is located just away from the main area of Roda, probably a five to seven minute walk to the restaurants, clubs and bars. As an aside, it did seem like Roda was suffering from the financial climate as there were some bars, restaurants and shops derelict which was a shame to see. The fact that it is located just away from the main area means that the location is quiet.
It is very hard to fault the friendliness of the staff, all were keen to please and very pleasant. At the front of the hotel is the bar area, reception and TV area. This is a pleasant open area that includes an free WiFi hotspot.
The rooms, whilst certainly not bad, in my opinion fall short of three star hotel standard and I say that in Greek terms fully understanding what Greet accommodation is like. The cost of this holiday was double the cost of two star studio self catering on other Greek islands. One of the let downs was the fact that there was a charge for the fridge in the room. Not deal breakers, but given the cost over other holidays a bit of a let down. This could, in reality, be a gripe against the holiday company rather than the hotel. On the plus side, the rooms are well decorated, relatively modern. They come with a TV, which you don't have to pay for, which provided a few hours of entertainment watching Greek soap operas. The rooms have a balcony which is accessed by a patio window. The views from most of the rooms are to either side of the hotel and do not face the pool or the main road at the front of the hotel. The bathroom has a shower as is standard in Greek accommodation. For a hotel, I felt that the towels could have been changed more regularly.
The holiday was on a bed and breakfast basis, and we had the breakfast on the first morning, following which we didn't bother. It seemed that the continental breakfast was quite basic. Please don't think that I am confused over what a continental breakfast is, it is just that I would consider that I've had better continental breakfasts in the past. One example was that the orange juice, in our opinion, was proper fresh orange juice that had been watered down. Having said this there were plenty of people taking breakfast, so it was probably just not our thing.
The pool area is absolutely great, huge pool loads of sun beds. There are poolside toilets which are very clean. The pool bar is very well stocked and is open all throughout the day. The snack bar is also open all throughout the day and serves up great burgers and pizzas. Again, the staff on the pool bar and snack bar are very friendly and helpful.
When you consider that the hotel has been open since the 1980's it is not really showing it's age. The only way you can tell is when you take a stroll to the rear of the property to the tennis court area and roller skate area, yes that is roller skate area! This is how you know that it was built in the 1980's! Anyway, both these areas are derelict and to top it off is the batch type boat sat at the very rear, I imagine a very interesting play area for a small, investigative child!
As for the area, if you hire a car Sidari is a fifteen minute drive to the west and Kassiopi which is about a twenty minute drive to the east is a jewel in the crown and is really worth a trip. If you're into James Bond films you will know that For Your Eyes Only was partly timed on Corfu. If you take a drive to the very small village of Pagi, thirty to forty minute drive, you will be able to see where the 2CV flipped over and just outside of the village, where they filmed the car chase scene. Corfu Town is about forty minutes away from Roda and is great for shopping.
So what is the overall impression of the Pegasus Hotel in Roda. Good hotel, rooms are up to a good standard. Well worth it for the pool area. I would make sure that you get a good price for the holiday if you're booking with a travel agent compared with what it would cost for self catering apartments. From what we saw in Roda I would say that all in all this is one of the better hotels in the area. The staff are very friendly which is a big plus. All in all, get it at the right price and you'll be really pleased!
