“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

We stayed here for 4 nights. We originally booked for 2 nights but it was so nice we decided to extend our stay. We had an ocean view, enough space for 2 adults and 2 children in the room, and the location was fantastic - steps away from the Calella beach and a short walk to the LaFranc beach. The breakfasts were generous and very good and on the ocean view terrace. The staff were exceptionally helpful.

“Delightful Charm on the Coasta Brava”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2009

Hotel La Torre in Calella de Palafrugell is a beautiful and pleasant hotel on the sea, near a grand medieval tower, in a delightful village on the Costa Brava. The room we had was twin-bedded with modern bath and small terrace, and a sea view, at an angel, which included a view of the small village and cap. It was easy to drive to many nearby country villages and other sights along the coast. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace, a self-service table with a plentiful assortment of breakfast foods and drinks.

We ate one meal of the three nights at the hotel restaurant, a much better than average hotel meal, with very good local specialisms and a nice selection of regional and Spanish wines. It was warm enough to eat on the terrace, and the nocturnal setting and food made a lovely introduction to our month in Catalonia and the Northeast of Spain.

As everywhere in Iberia, the parking is tight. That is especially true here in their lot near the tower. One can also walk to the Botanic Gardens, an impressive park with flowers, overlooking the sea.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2009

First, what's good about this hotel: the location is perfect, it's next to one of Calella's beautiful (if crowded) beaches, and Calella of course is a gem, compared to most other spots at the Costa Brava. Tourists here are mostly Catalans and Spanish, and you have a great selection of good restaurants offering excellent sea food.
Unfortunately, the restaurant of "La Torre" is not among these restaurants. What we found most annoying, though, is the low quality of service. Upon arrival, noone welcomes you, and when leaving, noone wishes you a good ride home. Absolutely unprofessional. For a solid 140 euros per room, breakfast is a joke - apparently, hotel management is focused, above all, on cutting costs, and you feel it (coffee, e.g., is being served by a cheap coffee machine). The hotel bar, again, is wonderfully located, but somewhat faceless. All in all, we would strongly recommend Calella, but not this hotel.
