“The Dogs...........”

I don't know what I can say about the Hotel Del Oso which hasn't already been said. It's not often I'm lost for words.

We chose to stay here on the recommendation of a business contact, during a conversation, I mentioned we were looking for something different in Spain, he suggested this hotel. After some research we decided that it would be worth a visit. Up in the mountains wouldn't normally be my first choice, the drive from the motorway was interesting!!!

From the moment we arrived everything was faultless, the staff were very friendly, the room was modest but spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, our room came with the added bonus of a balcony and view over the pool and tennis court out towards the mountains.

In the dining room , portions were generous and exceptional value for money, there was a good selection of wine.

The staff wore traditional dress which added to the ambience, then there were the St Bernards!!!!

This is the best hotel I have stayed in, that is a bold statement, however as an overall experience I have yet to go anywhere that has surpassed it.

I can only wonder what it is like in winter, when the fire is roaring !!!! Just a thought.

After all the positive reviews this hotel is hardly a secret and I can only concur with them. We had the most friendly and efficient welcome with lots of advice and maps for mountain walks. The rooms may be small but very comfortable with a spotless bathroom. The restaurant staff glide silently between the tables delivering enormous platefuls of delicious mountain food, just what you need after a day on the trails. And the breakfast buffet was just as good. Fantastic value for the money.

“Believe the reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Got back last Wed. from a lovely stay for 8 nights in this hidden gem!
This is a small well run hotel halfway between Potes and Fuente De. We had a spacious room on the front of the Hotel. It was spotlessly clean and lovely and warm. The breakfasts are buffet style and very good. We had dinner in the hotel twice and it was delicious both times, would have eaten in more often but we prefer to eat earlier in the day (food was great but our bodies could not cope with the spanish style of late dining) Really nice outdoor sitting area and of course the delightfull house dogs will be glad to make you welcome. This is a great place to come and stay and enjoy the delights of the Picos national park.

“Heaven in the hills”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

Heavenly hotel lost in the Picos. The family have made this location into an oasis of beauty and tranquility. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. Restaurant and bar is a bit steep, and in my opinion it would do no harm if their local wines were priced more competitively to bring them to a wider audience. Having said all that, worth every penny, and will definitely be back. Try the lamb!!

Room Tip: Try for a room with a balcony.

“Filled the bill!”

Our 6 nights at the Hotel del Oso lived up to the level expected from the previous reviews and certainly exceeded our expectations. This is a very professionally run mountain hotel with welcoming informative staff, well appointed public rooms, comfortable bed rooms and a pleasant restaurant with very extensive menu and wine list. The set menu for dinner was a real bargain but you have to remember to leave room for the breakfast which was so copious and varied we were sure some people tried to make do with it as their sole meal of the day!

The front desk was very helpful providing information on hikes or trips and they even made their own hiking trail leaflets. There is Wi-Fi as well as a customer computer which is useful to check the webcam at the top of the nearby Fuente De cable car if you are trying to work out how high to go for the day..

By far the best hotel in the valley, they would certainly show almost any Parador what friendly service and good cooking should look like!

Room Tip: Take the hike up to Pembes behind the hotel to see a really ancient village, and excellent views on...
