“Very relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks in August 2011 with my son. I booked the hotel before reading the reviews, and once I read them, was a little worried that maybe I shouldnt have booked this hotel. However, I couldn't have been more wrong.

Maybe the hotel was not quite 4 star, but it was clean and all of the staff were very helpful. Most of the staff could speak enough english that we were able to communicate our needs. I strongly recommend a Sea View room. The pool was fab, really warm and quite quiet. Many Spanish prefered to go to the beach, which was only just across the road. The Gym looked brill and although I intended to use it, didn't, because the sunshine kept calling me!! Their was a fridge in the room which was really handy. The local supermarket was only a couple of minutes away so we were able to stock up on water and drinks, crisps etc.

The food in the hotel was ok. Not brilliant, but ok. Breakfast was good, Croissants, cold meats, cheeses etc. There was also a selection of hot food including chorizo, fried and scrambled eggs, bacon etc. Coffee and fruit juice was freely available as was fresh fruit.
Lunch was the main meal of the day, although as we booked half board missed out on this most days. Dinner consisted of lots of different salads, cold meats, cheeses as well as soup, pasta, a fish dish/s, and meat dishes. The puddings were always good as well.

The town of Adra was a nothing town, A few bars/restaurants but not really any proper shops. This is not a tourist town and very few people speak english. The Tourist Information centre is in the Tower and open from 11 (ish) till 2pm mon-friday. They were very helpful. It is not possible to hire a car in Adra. This must be done from Almeria. Lots of buses though. A market is held every 1st and 3rd Saturday.

There was one amazing fish restaurant which came recommended from the Tourist Office. This was called 'Los Finos' . I have eaten in many fine restaurants but this was one of the nicest. The Tapas was so brilliant I kept ordering more drinks just so I could try different fish. The waiter recommended dishes for us to try and both my son and I could have stayed there forever. Sit outside for the full experience. Main meals were about 10 euros.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you don't want nightlife and want a quite time.

“Excellent”

It is very easy to write a review about this hotel, I cannot believe what I am reading here in all the reviews.

First before you go here, realize that you are not going to a tourism area, the busier place are at least half an hour away.

So I recommend this hotel to everybody who is interested in visiting the real spain, and do not want to trip over drunk english people or visit english or other bars they are used to.

Concerning dining in Adra, almost every bar offers food from the menu, it doesn't look like a restaurant but they serve very good food, and next to this all bars serve tapas with every drink you order.

To all the people who are thinking of going to Adra, just keep in mind you are going to spain, people speak spanish, and be creative in where to eat, don't be afraid to try something, if you are more the benidorm, playa de las americas kind of person just stay away.

The nightlife in summer july - september is perfect as long as you know where to find the places, currently you have to go to the discos on the beach (poniente) this can change every year, don't go there before 1 am as you will be by yourself that early in the night. before 1am just go into town and look around where the busy bars are, la granja is always a nice bar to go to.

In winter there is not much to do, the best time to go is in the week of 5 - 10 september as the feria (fair) is in town, this is a tradional fair with big parties (nightly) every day.

For further info just contact me.
'
Regards,
Iwan.

“Nice hotel in uninteresting town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2009

This is a difficult review to write. We were happy with the hotel, but we didn't like the town (so we left the following day). I can recommend the hotel but not the town!

The location of the hotel is good, just a road separating it from a pebble beach. The room was great - roomy and clean with a balcony facing the beach. The staff we met the first day was very friendly, but the man who was manning the reception the next day couldn't have been more unfriendly.
There are, as the other reviews state, not anywhere else to have dinner, so we ate in the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately the food was pretty bad - tasteless and greasy. The breakfast on the other hand was great!

I would recommend the hotel to people who are happy not to leave the hotel to eat/swim/etc. and who are willing to let do with uninteresting food.

“Lovely Hotel in a real Spanish location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2008

We stayed at this hotel 09 October 2008 for 7 nights.
If you want on holiday english owned bars and newspapers then Adra isn't for you. If on the other hand you want to sample Spanish living and test your language skills then give Adra a try.
The hotel is situated on the promenade and approximately 10 mins walk from the shops in Adra. Large supermarket 100 yards from the hotel for bottled water etc.The Mirador is used equally by Spanish families and tourists. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Bedrooms have a sea view and were cleaned every day. Bathroom equipped with hair dryer, shampoo's etc. Sky news on the tele if you want to keep up with the news back home. Excellent english & continental breakfast which even includes black pudding! Dinner is served from 7.30pm and majority of guests attend at that time. In our party were three generations and we had no problems satisfying all our appetites. The hotel has a well equipped gym and indoor pool which guests can use free of charge. No problems with sun beds or chairs round the pool. If you are looking for a small hotel to chill out then we would recommend the Barcelo Mirador de Adra
