I stayed at this hotel for two weeks in August 2011 with my son. I booked the hotel before reading the reviews, and once I read them, was a little worried that maybe I shouldnt have booked this hotel. However, I couldn't have been more wrong.
Maybe the hotel was not quite 4 star, but it was clean and all of the staff were very helpful. Most of the staff could speak enough english that we were able to communicate our needs. I strongly recommend a Sea View room. The pool was fab, really warm and quite quiet. Many Spanish prefered to go to the beach, which was only just across the road. The Gym looked brill and although I intended to use it, didn't, because the sunshine kept calling me!! Their was a fridge in the room which was really handy. The local supermarket was only a couple of minutes away so we were able to stock up on water and drinks, crisps etc.
The food in the hotel was ok. Not brilliant, but ok. Breakfast was good, Croissants, cold meats, cheeses etc. There was also a selection of hot food including chorizo, fried and scrambled eggs, bacon etc. Coffee and fruit juice was freely available as was fresh fruit.
Lunch was the main meal of the day, although as we booked half board missed out on this most days. Dinner consisted of lots of different salads, cold meats, cheeses as well as soup, pasta, a fish dish/s, and meat dishes. The puddings were always good as well.
The town of Adra was a nothing town, A few bars/restaurants but not really any proper shops. This is not a tourist town and very few people speak english. The Tourist Information centre is in the Tower and open from 11 (ish) till 2pm mon-friday. They were very helpful. It is not possible to hire a car in Adra. This must be done from Almeria. Lots of buses though. A market is held every 1st and 3rd Saturday.
There was one amazing fish restaurant which came recommended from the Tourist Office. This was called 'Los Finos' . I have eaten in many fine restaurants but this was one of the nicest. The Tapas was so brilliant I kept ordering more drinks just so I could try different fish. The waiter recommended dishes for us to try and both my son and I could have stayed there forever. Sit outside for the full experience. Main meals were about 10 euros.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel if you don't want nightlife and want a quite time.
