“Good standard country motel with friendly staff and excellent restaurant”

This is the third time that a Porsche Club of Victoria tour has stayed at this motel and we have always been well looked after. On this occasion we had 22 cars. The rooms are large, well maintained and have air con as well as ceiling fans. The staff service is unfailingly cheerful and efficient and The Elms restaurant is of an unusually good standard for a country motel. It is in a very quiet location with secure car parking. The motel is also very well placed for exploring the High Country.

“Only Motel I have stayed in that provides a variety of comfort levels for your bed!!”

What a perfect weekend away. Great position added to the experience. Elms restaurant was sensational, not what we were expecting, mid-priced, excellent food, wine selection and service. Comfortable room, bed and great service from the staff. We will be back and recommending you to our colleagues. Thankyou for making our stay a home away from home.

“Nice motel, but extremely uncomfortable bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2010

We stayed for one night only thank goodness. The bed was quite possibly the most uncomfortable one we have ever slept in, like sleeping on a rock ledge. Consequently we had a very bad night's sleep which was dangerous considering we were driving over 400kms the next day and were exhausted before we even started the trip.
The room itself was very basic, not even a sofa to sit on.
We had dinner in the restaurant which was quite good and the staff were lovely.

Hi smr289,

Sorry it has taken us so long to reply to your review. However, we are now up to date with tripadvisor and are very worried about your stay with us here at the Tumbarumba Motel.

There are many ways that we could have accommodated your needs, if we had known about any worries you had with firmness of beds. We have many ranges of beds available including the most firm chiropractic ensemble along with extra soft pillow topped mattresses. Unfortunately you may have been booked into a room with an unsuitable mattress for yourself. Had we been informed prior to your arrival we would have done everything in our power to make your trip more enjoyable. As we are in the market for selling sleep, it is distressing for us, as managers, to hear that you had an uncomfortable night. May I extend an invitation to you to try out the motel again and when booking in, let us know that you would rather a softer bed.

On the other hand we are very glad that you enjoyed your time in the restaurant. It is also great to hear that the staff were lovely as this makes everyone’s stay a little brighter.

“excellent motel.very very clean and staff/owners were so nice.”

This motel was lovely. There were four of us travelling, we had two rooms ajoining and the cost was under $200.00 for the four of us.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, giving us information about the area and place to eat.
The motel has a restaurant attached, however we didn't get to try it this trip.
I would recommend this motel, and would not hesitate to stay there again.
Thank you to the staff/owners at Tumbarumba motel.

“Good country motel with overpriced restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2008

I was pleasantly surprised when I entered my room at this property. It was spotless, spacious and well-maintained with lots of natural light coming in through floor to ceiling windows. The outlook over a local park was attractive. The beds were comfortable and the towels white and fluffy.

The tiny television set made viewing a challenge. The staff encountered were all pleasant and helpful. There was no internet access available at this property.

The Elms Restaurant served good food that was overpriced - no wonder it was practically empty. The items on the limited and safe menu were very expensive at $AU28 for Fish and Chips and others between $30 and $35 with vegetables extra. At these prices one expects a professional level of service better than that supplied by the cheerful lass who waited on our table. A couple of lighter options such as pasta or risotto would have enhanced the menu. The advertising in the Guest Service Directory claims that there is a "Delightful a La Carte menu - catering for all tastes & budgets" . This needs to be revised. One of the locals I talked with said that the restaurant is not well patronised because of the prices. The plain fresh in room breakfast was served on time.

I do not expect a lot from country motels in small towns, the accomodations in this motel were well above average and good value at around $AU100 per double.

Hi glumball,

Thanks for your review and staying with us back in 2008.

We've had a few updates since you stayed with us including the TV's. Each room is now furnished with a 32" Flat screen TV for your viewing pleasure.

Happy to take on your feedback about the restaurant. We always try to provide the freshest local produce available at a price that meets the quality. Our local wines are also priced to match. We are attracting a great local following in the restaurant these days, but are just one of the great options in town to dine at so you can't please everyone all of the time! We have started a monthly 'Wine Sippers" club which is filling the restaurant each month so let us know if you wanted to join us for one of the events.

The menu now ranges from light entree options from $18.50 - mains at $30.00. We continue to change and vary our menu based on continuing feedback from our guests.

Hope to see you back in Tumbarumba sometime soon.

Regards,
Robyn and Chris Jones
