We stayed for a week at Great Seaside in July and were given a warm welcome by Amanda. Great Seaside is genuinely just 5 mins from the beach - no tour operator hype ! For the week that we were there the beach was normally pretty empty. Although it is a pebble beach, there are rock pools and sand at low tide - plenty to keep children occupied. Branscombe is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and we would thoroughly recommend a short walk along the cliff paths either to the village or more further afield to Beer to really appreciate the Jurassic coast line. Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Beer are just a stones throw away and are all worthy of a visit.
Great Seaside itself is 16th century farm house with lots of original features - the massive fireplace, the thick walls and (unsurprisingly) the smaller than 20th century door openings as mentioned in one of the other reviews.
The family room itself is huge and extremely comfortable with the shower room / bathroom just next door. Every thing was immaculate and, being a frequent business traveller, there are many hotels that could learn from Amanda and her small team on how to properly clean and service rooms. Breakfast was great - fresh bread, plenty of cereals, orange juice, yoghurts, a wonderful cooked breakfast and excellent coffee. It was impossible to leave the table feeling empty.
For an evening meal we would recommend the Masons Arms (book ahead !) which is an easy 10 minute walk away. They had a full menu, plus a childrens menu and a wide selection of beers and wines, at a very reasonable price.
At the end of our week, none of us wanted to come home. An incredibly relaxing holiday and we hope to go back soon.
