Best way to escape the summer heat of Andalusia is to check into this charming, funky hotel. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic getaway, this is ideal. Rooms are carved out of the soft sandstone cliff. Wonderful decor, facilities, ample space, huge bed, large, walk-in bathroom, with kitchenette and fab terrace - not luxurious, but very comfortable. Hotel is set off the road, so pay close attention to the directions on the hotel Web site - I drove past it once before backtracking. No restaurant, but there are a few decent local, family-run restaurants in nearby Calahorra. This is an ideal base for checking out the Sierra Nevada and Guadix. Excellent value.
