We stayed in the upstairs rooms which were clean and had a view of the monkeys in the trees. Very gracious hosts, we highly recommend!

now, i didn't stay at other homestays while i was in kumily, but i'm confident that jungle view IS the best place to stay. first and foremost the owner, rama, is a kind-hearted, sincere, genuine person who truly derives pleasure from being able to help you have the best stay possible. he's a former farmer who is very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and much of it is right in his backyard, which takes me to the 2nd reason it's a great stay.
his place butts up against the wildlife reserve on oneside and the tamil nadu state forest on the other. monkeys abound, as do various birds, flying squirrels at night, and occasionally some of the lesser seen black langurs from deep in the forest. he's also had wild elephants right in his backyard before (although they were there to pilfer his bananas...which he no longer grows for obvious reasons)
thirdly, his place is on a dead end road so it's QUIET...rarely will you hear the ubiquitous horns, rickshaw motors and trucks.
finally, the rooms are very clean with very hot water available. yes, they are basic rooms, but really quite comfortable.
he has a router, but still is having some glitches getting the wifi to come in consistently.
it's a fascinating 10 minute walk from downtown along a narrow alley filled with friendly neighbors.
all of the other homestays we passed by were on busy roads with dubious views...
anyway, jungle view...unless you're a hilton or a trump type luxury snob, you'll love this place!

After reading this impressive reviews my wife and myself was eager to stay in this home stay and we booked through stayzilla website for one day. We thought that if we like that place we might extend for another one day based on availability. But when we landed there the first question asked by the owner Ramachandran was When are we leaving ? We found that the owner was very much reluctant have us there the way he treated (Disrespectful) us. We were already informed that no food is available in his homestay due to absence of cook. So we are prepared to have our food nearby, but for surprise he was serving food for the foreigners who were staying there, even in late night. we are also paying the same amount what foreigners are paying, why this difference? And also we saw that the owner was chatting with them even in late night with the foreigners whether to please them? He should be ashamed for being like this and treating Indian guests in disrespectful way, We came for pleasure trip and myself and wife mood were totally spoilt and next day we left the homestay early in the morning. We selected this homestay based on reviews and ambience of the room , But now we regret for staying there and Its not for Indians.

My partner and I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms with a balcony at the end of February/beginning of March. The room was very large, comfortable and clean and had a large bathroom attached with a hot shower. The marble balcony had table and chairs and also armchairs and a coffee table. It was great value.

We loved having breakfast on the balcony and wildlife spotting from there too. Within half an hour of arriving we had seen the common macaque monkeys and a giant squirrel. During our stay we also saw lots of birdlife, including Grey Hornbills and an owl from the balcony and also and black monkeys.

Mr Rama (the host) was so pleasant, good company and we enjoyed several local walks with him showing us the wildlife. He helped us arrange a jeep safari (which we loved) and a spice garden/elephant junction trip too.

The location was great as its a 10 minute walk from the centre or a short tuk tuk ride if preferred and much quieter than in the centre of Kumily.

We would both stay here again if we ever return to Kumily.
