For anyone wishing to experience the quintessential essence of Britain We highly recommend this lovely cottage. We enjoyed very comfortable rooms and really had the most relaxing vacation in years! The owners are incredibly helpful and extremely friendly, the location is beautiful with wonderful views, a garden, picturesque walks and an 800-year-old pub a stone's throw away that also provides a fine selection of local beers and very good food. If you want to explore the local countryside or further afield the Merlewood is ideally located with easy access to the UK's national rail network via a short cab ride.

We traveled all the way from Sarasota Florida to stay at the Merlewood and will certainly do so again!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in February 2005. The owners, Peggy & Alick, were excellent hosts, not only were they very friendly but Alick’s breakfasts were out of this world (using locally grown produce). The B&B has been tastefully decorated by Peggy, with many of the rooms featuring her paintings.

We wanted to stay outside of Totnes so Harberton was ideal as it is only a 5 minute drive into the town. My husband was rather keen that there be a pub nearby, so The Church House Inn (a 2 minute walk) sorted that out. The food was quite good (I gather the chef had recently left so the owner was filling in), but the ambience couldn't be faulted.

I would highly recommend staying here for it’s wonderful location, beautiful rooms, great hospitality and, last but not least, the fantastic breakfasts
