“disappointing”

We stayed here as part of an organised safari. we had to change rooms three times as the first room was so noisy, one could not hear. the second one had no hot water and the third..no hot water as well, but by then we were too tired to change again. The rooms are hot, have no fans, and no insect screens. we barely slept. the internet is as slow as a wet week, service very average - but the buffet food was reasonable. We would not recommend this hotel at all.

“Great Staff, Lousy Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

The staff is outstanding, and make every effort to make your stay comfortable. However, could not get our flush repaired, or Hot water in the shower for three days. The best suite is on the first floor, on the road. Lorry and traffic noise levels are so high, it is difficult to sleep

Room Tip: get a room as far from the road as possible

“The worst hotel in Nakuru”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

I've stayed at four hotels in Nakuru (all for business) and I can say without a doubt that this is the worst. From the terrible internet that barely works (trust me, every other hotel at least has functional internet) to the rude staff to the barely functioning bathroom to the mediocre food...this is the kind of place where they consider a request for a fan off-putting and take more than 24 hours and two reminders to comply. Having experienced many Nakuru hotels, I was not expecting the world, but aside from the size of the room and the free gym, there is absolutely nothing to recommend this (extremely loud) hotel.
I have never complained about a hotel before, but the utter indifference of the staff combined with the terrible facilities compelled me.
STAY ANYWHERE ELSE.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms above the pool. Super super loud.

“Unfortunately the best alternative”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Do not expect too much and it will be ok!
- rooms spacious and quite clean, but problems with bathroom facilities (loose toilets, sinks blocked, disappering towels etc)
- take ear-plugs with you, it's quite noisy from early morning to the evening party-time
- breakfast and dinner buffet below average, but fortunately safe to eat
- the beauty parlor was interesting; male cosmetologist for women and a lady therapist for men.
- take time for the check-out, the bill will take a long time

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not viewing to the main street and not above the bar. I had both.

“Great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

I stayed at the Merica in Jan 2011 and will be going back in the near future. I went with a group and we all had a great experience. The staff were extra friendly and helpful!! I loved the security and the safety of the place. This hotel was as expected to be in Nakuru, Kenya. Please remember where you are going and how others are sleeping on the road outside before you start giving this hotel a low rating and complaining about what they offer. Loved it! Thanks!
