We stayed for two weeks at Castello di Rodi and loved it!
The rooms were refurbished recently, and lived up to the standards of a hotel of this class. The bed was soft, the lights were cozy, paintings on the walls and an aircondition system that worked perfectly without making us ill.
There is a 24 hour reception, always with helpful and nice staff ready to help you in any way they can. You can get tips for where to go and how to do it, for instance where to park in Rhodes city for free.
The pool area, of which much is written in here, is a wonderful and peaceful place. The view is good, and there seems always to be room for everyone. The pool is cleaned every day. A nice breeze makes staying on the free sunbeds in the sun a real pleasure.
The restaurant, which is right next to the pool area, has many different dishes. We are not talking haute cuisine, but it's definitely good enough to get a decent lunch or breakfast in. It's aircondiioned most of the time. It closes at 18.00 which is a good thing, as you should go to the Panorama restaurant in Koskinou!
All the grilled food is delicious, picked out at a local market by the owner himself, and carefully grilled over a fire by his wife. The meat is tender and tastes great! It's the best grilled food we had ever had! The owner, Yiannis, has been there for 37 years and has many stories to tell, and is interested in his customers. We miss him! The view is also great: You can see the city, the sea and the mountains from there. Did I mention that you get free homemade tzatziki and Ouzo every time?
At Castello di Rodi, after the restaurant closes, the bar opens. You can get cold beer and drinks to enjoy in the wonderful courtyard. That courtyard is so relaxing, romantic and nicely decorated.
Castello di Rodi is placed a few hundred meters from the beach. You need to go for a little walk to get to the beach, but the weather is always good, and the beach is great. Many locals go there. Sunbeds are 4 euro each, so you may want to bring a mattress or other means to separate yourself from the burning hot sand. The water is perfectly clean, and the temperature of the water was 24C every day during our stay. It's a sandy beach of the same quality as Tsambika, so that should be acceptable.
The road to Rhodes city is right outside the hotel, so you can really benefit from a rented car. It takes only a few minutes to get to Rhodes city, and all other parts of the island are also easily accessible via the main roads. But the busses stop close to the hotel, so that's also an option.
All in all, Castello di Rodi is a nice place to go for your holidays. Remember to dine at Panorama in Koskinou, just about 500 meters up the street from the street light nearby. You will not regret it!
By the way, there is a fridge and a water boiler in the room, which is great for having your breakfast in your room whenever you want to. There is a supermarket just down the street with milk, cornflakes, bread, cheese, coffee and other good stuff.
Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room away from the street.
