“Fabulous cabanas on a deserted beach & brilliant food!”

I have just returned from two weeks at Los Gringos and it was one of the most relaxing experiences I’ve ever had. Most of the places in the Dominican Republic are all inclusive and I was looking for a cabana on the beach so I chose Los Gringos and found exactly what I was looking for. The cabanas are gorgeous and have all that you need for a beach holiday including the veranda and hammock. The cabanas were cleaned each day with new towels and the bed made. The beach was virtually empty while I was there so I had the luxury of walking along a deserted beach, accompanied by the two dogs Capitan and Tricom who are so sweet natured and became my little friends while I was there. The cabanas are also set amongst a beautiful garden that is home to many little lizards, birds and the occasional butterfly. Patrick the host is a great guy who goes out of his way to ensure you have a wonderful holiday and can cook up a storm. The food is absolutely amazing and the servings are huge! Breakfast is included and it’s a great way to start your day with a plate of fruit or whatever you ask for. All the staff there are so hospitable and it really made me wish I could speak some more Spanish, though my lack of was never an issue. If you are looking for a wild nightlife then this is not for you, but there is a great bar which you can access any time you please. The bill at the end of my stay was ridiculously inexpensive given I’d eaten and drunk so much throughout my stay. My time at Los Gringos was exactly what I was hoping for. I just wish it wasn’t so far from Australia as I’d be back again at the first opportunity. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you want a relaxing holiday on your own little beach in a beautiful location with a great host and plentiful food, then this is it!

“Great place, wonderful people, beautiful beach and the girls are great dancers”

My girlfriend and I stayed at Los gringos mid november this year and it was great. Now if you are looking for the most exciting place in the world with tons to do and hundreds of people to mingle with then this may not be the place for you. If you are looking for relaxation, quality time with a loved one and a really cool bungalow on the beach for a rediculously good price then try the los gringos. The bungalows are very nice with everything you will need (no stove but your on vacation relax and let someone else do the cooking) and they are right on the beach you could literally throw a stone and hit the water. Now the water is very nice and warm and depending on the weather very calm. And you dont need to worry about to much stuff while youre walking out in the water its pretty sandy but if you do hit a rocky spot then move down the beach a little. There is a lot of open beach to work with. The whole week we were there there we maybe saw 10 people. The beach is probably a mile long and lined the whole way with palm trees. Its very pretty. And there are only like four other very small places on the beach so this beach is very unspoiled which is hard to come by.
Now when it comes to the place. Patrick is the manager, very funny and one of nicest people you will ever meet on vacation. He made the contacts for us to go horseback riding, fishing, he got our tire pumped on our rental car when it had a leak and gave us directions to get to the tire shop where they fixed it for a dollar, and when we got brought to the santiago police department because our rental car registration expired we even called him and he translated for us. He is really a nice man. All of the workers as nice as can be I only wish we spoke spanish so we could have talked to them more. And if you get the pleasure of being at the Los gringos when Bill and April are there get to know them a little too they are very good people.
The food is great but bring your appetite because it is not small portions. Every morning when we got up it was amazing how fast they got coffee to your table at your bungalow. Get use to Captain because he will be your best friend for the week and follow you everwhere. We were also lucky enough to be one of the first to meet Tricom the newest puppy the the Los gringos team.
I could go on forever so instead of that just go and see for yourself.

“A quiet, private place to relax!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

Our stay was fantastic. The weather could have been better, but that's not really Patrick's fault. :) As far as logistics go, Patrick came to pick us up in Cabarete and then arranged for someone else to take us back to Santiago when our stay was done. He cooked delicious meals and hit it off with my husband.

The place itself is amazing. The cabanas are cozy and exotic, with great porches with hammocks. The beach is private, so you don't have any locals bothering you to buy fruit or get your hair braided. Patrick can arrange for various activities. We went horseback riding for 3 hours. I can't remember what the final cost was, but the whole trip was ridiculously cheap.

The few negatives: a neighbor's dog kept wandering over. He was friendly, but aggressively so (putting your arm in his mouth, clawing you when he jumps up to say hi, etc). Also, I think our room was only cleaned once or twice throughout our 6 night stay. We're not neat freaks by any means, but a lot of sand got tracked in from our beach adventures.

Can't wait to go back!

“So glad we stayed here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2009

For our honeymoon I didn't want the typical resort, but wanted to feel like we had discovered our own little paradise - swimming, cabanas, coconuts...the whole deal. The price is absolutely fantastic and we ended up eating nearly all our meals in the restaurant, which came out to be very affordable. Even though it rained a couple of the days, there's nothing like hanging out on your own private beach (almost). Patrick and the staff were absolutely incredible - letting us eat and do whatever we wanted. We took advantage of the horse riding and snorkeling trips, but were very happy just relaxing in this incredible place.
(FYI - Management is changing hands)

“What an amazing, special hideaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2009

Patrick, who runs this amazing hideaway simply wants you to have a great vacation. In addition, his food was amazing, I mean, truly the best - as good as you would find in a high end, 5 star restaurant. So tasty! When we got the bill, it was also so inexpensive! We felt like we ate like kings and queens!

This resort has just 3 cabana's (very nice, rustic and simple cabana's) on the water. The restaurant is quite large and on the weekends locals come and eat and hang out.

We traveled with our 2 children, and although he didn't have kids club and all the toys etc., it didn't matter. They loved it! They played all day with the wildlife (hermit crabs, lizards, shells etc.) Patrick's dogs Tricom and Capitan were also very sweet and protective. They slept outside our cabana each night and said hello each morning. Our amazing (and huge!) breakfast was served right to our door - on the table on our deck! Now, how dreamy is that?

We went on excursions during the day; horseback riding, waterfalls, Cabarete beach etc. In the night, it was very quiet and we simply enjoyed an amazing meal and drinks that Patrick made.

Imagine yourself living in the complete and utter beauty of the Dominican all day and then laying in bed at night with the roar of the waves, the rain crashing on your roof and just say "aaaaahhh".....if you want a vacation like this, then you MUST stay with Patrick at Los Gringos.

P.S. Book well ahead of time too! He's in rightful demand! :)
