Plenty of bus stops in Broadbeach along the gold coast highway.

Where are you staying at Broadbeach?

Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a 53 km long city which runs along the beach, the Gold Coast Highway, as surfoz said has very regular bus stops and is parallel to the beach about 100-200 metres back.

Surfers , Broadbeach and Coolangatta airport are all on the highway route.

Have fun!

Please be aware that there's no MRT system on the Gold Coast. In terms of transport, there are just buses or taxis (or of course, private shuttle buses or hiring a car). There's trains as well, but, they don't run from Broadbeach to Surfers Paradise or anything like that. There will be a light rail system, but it won't be in operation until 2014.

A website well worth checking out is the Journey Planner: http://jp.translink.com.au/ on Translink's website because you can insert in your hotel's address and your destination, and it'll advise you where to get on the bus and so forth.

I think the closest might be at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, and then you'll need to walk over. You could also just catch buses from Oasis Shopping Mall in Broadbeach, if you plan to be there.

For the bus from the Airport, catch bus #702 outside the domestic arrivals area of Gold Coast Airport. This is the cheapest option as well. Excellent choice with the Meriton, by the way!

Good luck with your planning and have a GREAT time on the Gold Coast! :)

The buses will pass right past the hotel. You also have only a short walk to the Oasis at Broadbeach and also Pacific Fair shopping centre where there is transport avaliable. For ease of travel, i would just catch an airport shuttle to the hotel.

Good choice of hotel by the way, enjoy.

Hi All,

Thanks for the reply... few more questions:

1. Any suggestion whether i should hire a self drive vehicle... Do i need any special permits/ licence... I am from India.

2. I wish to go to Steve Irwin Zoo.. I know the distance is around 3 hours from Gold Coast and have checked the train route...Any suggestions otherwise...? Like Self drive... Bus coach etc?

(1) If you are comfortable with driving, then, you might find hiring a car to be a good option, as you aren't reliant on buses to get around, and you can just go and leave as you wish. However, we have taken public buses everywhere, so, it's a good option, if you are not comfortable with driving. Do take a look at some of the car rental threads around here for some reputable companies, if interested.

(2) Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar about public transport options. You can certainly self-drive though, and Australia Zoo has instructions on their site: australiazoo.com.au/visit-us/…selfdrive

However, there are certainly companies that offer transfers/day tours to Australia Zoo from the Gold Coast. One company I'm aware of that does (although, there are quite a few) is Scenic Hinterland Day Tours: www.hinterlandtours.com.au/tour-04.html who offer a day tour or just transfers.

Good luck with your planning and have an AMAZING trip! :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I am ok with preferring for the public transport compared to the Self drive... But was not sure of the Public Transport access.

What area / Hotel will you suggest where you have public transport available.

Australia zoo is a bit difficult to get via public transport howerver they also run a bus from the Gold Coast, the Croc Express which picks up from all major hotels.

Meriton is a good option (I intend to stay there next time in actual fact!), but, the bus stop is unfortunately not right outside the door, so, you will need to walk a bit. You should only be about five minutes walking distance or so away from Oasis Shopping Mall, where there are some bus stops around. On the way to/from the Airport, I think the Gold Coast Convention Centre will be the closest stop, which is also about five or so minutes walk distance away as well, so, not too bad at all.

If you're going to Surfers Paradise, there will be many buses heading in that direction, so, no worries. If you're going to the theme parks, there will also be plenty of buses too. Definitely use the Journey Planner link on the Translink website that I posted above, as it'll give you a good idea of bus timetables (how frequent buses come and go to your chosen destinations from the bus stop closest to your accommodation).

With the theme parks though (excluding perhaps Seaworld), you'll be on the bus generally for more than 30 minutes, but, seeing as most tourists are too, then, it's no big deal either way.

Good luck with your planning and have a FANTASTIC time! :)
