 4 to 6 weeks in July/August - Kids camps?

we have an opportunity to stay in broadbeach for around a month this July/August. Are there any week long kids camps in the surrounding area (especially ocean related)? We went to Dana point, california last summer and our son went to the best Marine biology camp there. If there was something in the gold coast area that would be amazing. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi I may be wrong but I don't think they do anything like that over here...

That was my thought too, I've heard of things like school camps and scout camps but I'm not aware of any American style camps here... I'm sure someone will be along to clarify that...

Also I should add, holiday programs for kids (the ones I've heard of are typically daytime rather than residential) are maybe more a summer thing. Our long school holidays are not in Jul/Aug, I'm not sure if there are any school holidays in July/August.

I was also thinking the same (and I don't think it's limited to just the Gold Coast either - I think you'd struggle finding many US-style camps all over Australia). Most camps that I'm aware of, as MacKnee has said, are catered for school/youth groups who might book out an entire place. There are school holiday programs, but these would usually just be day activities held somewhere.

There are other camps that I know of, but these are more for those from socially/economically-disadvantaged backgrounds who might not normally have the opportunity to get out and about elsewhere.

Sorry for repeating a lot of what MacKnee has said, as I didn't see their previous post! As for school holidays, QLD school holidays will generally start from late June to early July, but it's only for about 2 weeks or so.

Good luck with your planning and have a GREAT time on the Gold Coast! :)

thanks for all your replies. I was looking and couldnt find anything and you all just confirmed it for me. by the way it was just day camp that i was looking for, specifically with a marine twist. Perhaps a stop over in L.A. for a week could solve the problem.

cheers

No worries Random-sunshine :-)

Bakayaroh, how old is your son? If we don't have any camps such as you had in mind, we might be able to think of some interesting alternatives.

These are a couple I can think of but they're residential for older teens.

I understand there are resorts which have kids activities and kids clubs, but that's not much help if you've already organised your accommodation at someplace that doesn't offer anything.

Some animal parks offer "keeper for a day" experiences.

In NSW Sport and Rec run camps during school holidays at their various locations.

Some are aimed at families, others are residential and aimed at kids from about 8+

Not sure if QLD has an equivalent service

Yes there are "kids camps" in Queensland, some at the Gold Coast and surrounding areas.

There's also a few horse riding camps available. In addition Local Councils in Queensland run school holiday activities.

Problem is that some don't operate during July August.

Hello again baka

Further to my previous post.

Winter school holidays in Queensland are from 22 June and resume on 9 July this year.

Gold Coast City Council run holiday activities for children, some are free.

All the details of what they offer are on the website.

Out of school holiday time the Libraries do have children's sessions.

hope you find something
