Will be in Broadbeach in January. Is it easy/possible to get to the most southerly reaches of Great Barrier Reef from Broadbeach? Just looking to go out on a boat on a day tour over the reef - no need to snorkle or dive. Understand that Cairns is the best spot to go to Reef however not planning to go that far north in January.

I think you would be hard pressed to find any boat tour that goes from Broardbeach up to the southern reaches of the Great Barrier Reef. I have never heard of any. You may be able to find some long day tours but that would invlolve a bus up to Harvey Bay and then the day trip out on the water. A lot oflong day trips do go to Fraser Island but that does not reallly get you out onto the reef itself.
You might have to look into taking a side trip for a day or so to include this.
The Town of 1770 and Agnes Waters is the nearest place from the mainland to access the Southern section of the Great Barrier Reef eg Lady Musgrave Island
It's over 500 km away from the Gold Coast!
You'd need to fly from Hervey Bay. Or boat from 1770.
Yeah the reef is a plane flight away at best.
If you have the days available posibly fly from Brisbane / Gold Coast to Hamilton Island. Usually fairly cheap flights. I would think you would need atleast 3 nights free to make this worth while.
