 Zanzibar - Any info please!!

Hello all,

My fiance and I are looking at going to Zanzibar in the second week of September this year and wondered if anyone has any info with regards on where to go and where to stay. We will be coming from Dubai and flying into Dar Es Salaam and then looking to get a boat over, anyone know the costs and travel time? Then looking for somewhere to stay for around 5-7 nights. We are not looking for 5 Star but instead for somewhere not too far from Bars/Restaurants and on the beach if possible. Not asking for too much am I ???????? :) Oh and any chance of a pool?? been looking at a few places on the internet but not sure whether to go to the east or west coast. Any infomation/pictures anyone has would be a massive help.

Thanks,

Mark

I think the best option is to take a flight from Dar to Zanzibar to cut off cost and time effectiveness.

Very little diffence in Prices between flight and Ferry.

The Fast Ferry is US$ 40 per person in First Class and US$ 35 per person in Economy Class also will cost you for transfer from Airport to Seaport which is arround US$ 20 - 25.

While flight is arround US$ 70 and will be the same prices as ferry when you get a cheapest Class (I think is E Class) in Precison Air flight

Fast Ferry takes 2 hour and flight is 20min.

No option at West Coast.

The Place which has lots of outlets (Bars and Restaurants) is North Coast, can access at day and early night safely.

SomeOptions are:-

Doubel Tree by Hilton.

The Z Hotel

Mnarani Beach Cottages

My Blue Boutique.

La Gemma De`ll Est - All Inclusive Resort

The Royal Zanzibar - All inclusive Resort

Alternative is East Coast at Paje Village Area. But easily accessed at Day time and evening for your safety

Arabian Nights Hotel

Annex of Arabian Nights Hotel

Cristal Resort

Kinazi Upepo

Kitete Beach Bungalows

etc

I was reading reviews here to day on Tembo House in Stonetown. It is feet from the water on the beach, bar/restauraunt next door and a pool that looks to be in a courtyard. The reviews are pretty mixed but I would give it a shot. You might want to check the review and they will usually link to other hotels in the area.

Hi,

Tembo House is in the centre of a busy, bustling, hot Stone Town.

The beach is not one you would swim from, and is about as different from the coastal resorts as you could get.

If you want to stay in a city, fine. If you want to stay on a beach, there are about 150 better choices.

We have just booked the Z Hotel in Nungwe after lots of research on the island and what we were looking for. As far as we know the beach is right in front of the hotel, perfect for all year round swimming and bathing and swimming pool. Also has hotels/bars/restaurants around and seems safe to travel between them at night. cheapest rooms are $220 per night high season (we go in feb). check it out on TA... Hope this helps.
