 Swimming

My family and I are planning to spend a week in Jambiani in July. From what I've read, the swimming depends on the tide, as it goes out quite far. Is it possible to swim on the beach most of the time or is it difficult? Can you just walk out when the tide is out?

Thanks.

Not sure if you ever got a answer to your question... Yes you can swim in Jambiani during low tide...just prepared to have to walk out to water to do this.

Hope this helps

You can just walk out when the tide is out...... but it goes out quite a ways. For swimming you would probably be better off at Kendwa or Nungwi.

Yuk, I hate swimmming in low tide.

look online for tide timetables for Znz. I use them alot for fishing in dar, and they are quite accurate. No reason they shouldnt be for znz as well.

Dont forget your sun block, or you'll burn to a crisp under the hot tanzanian sun!! God, i cant wait for the rainy season to return.

I knows this is a dumb question but are the tides always the same in Zanzibar in August? I hate swimming at low tide as well and want to find a beach in Zanzibar in August that I can use.

Thanks Roby

Jambiani is a good location and will have some hours to swim at high tide states.

You can even walk to have swimming at low tide states but the problem is between you and seaweeds farmers who always plant and set their plants at low tide states.

I don't think if will enjoy a swimming while other local people are planting ,hope will be bored.

Jambiani Still a good options ,less crowded and quite areas.

Hi. Jambiani is very tidal, but you can swim at high or low tide. At high tide the water rises up to 5 meters and comes in roughly 3km from the reef.

At (full) low tide the water goes back to the reef - up to 3km out from the high water line. However there is a deep channel that runs through the sandbar that is fantastic to swim in. And that's about 900meters out from the high water mark. So you can swim there or choose a hotel with a swimming pool if don't fany walking out. It is this tidal fluctuation that is bringing more and more visitors to Jambiani every year. Unlike other beach destinations, the scenery here is highly dynamic and the ever changing colours the tides bring is mesmerisinig.

Thanks. We'll be in Jambiani ourselves in a little over a month, so I guess we'll see for ourselves.
