 Short Visit

My boyfriend and myself will be travelling from Victoria to Port Angeles for one night (Aug 23). We are both 22 and enjoy any outdoors activities. We will be travelling with a car and would love to go to Olympic National Park. Just wondering if anyone could suggest the "top" things to do for a short period of time (preferably not too touristy), and what areas of Olympic National Park should be our focus.

Thanks in advance :)

(preferably not too touristy) Ummm, it's a national park. Hurricane Ridge, of course, right outside of PA, as a "starter". We have some experts who will chime in.

There is nothing touristy about ONP.

I agree, kaleberg, but was referring to the numbers of people at the "hot spots".

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with you, Voyager. I just want Sunbug not to worry about being caught in a tourist trap.

Sunbug, with your limited time you should concentrate on the sights near Port Angeles, especially Hurricane Ridge. You should consider hiking Hurricane Hill and perhaps driving down Obstruction Point Rd. and doing a portion of the incredibly beautiful Lillian Ridge Trail. Don't be afraid of the road. Obstruction Pt. Road looks a lot more dangerous than it is. If you have time left over, drive to Lake Crescent, which is 25 minutes west of PA and 1 hour and 10 minutes from the summit of Hurricane Ridge. The Spruce Railroad Trail is right on the eastern shore of the lake.

Whoops, guess I was misunderstood. I know ONP is not touristy, but I would like to explore some other areas of Port Angeles as well..."non-touristy" other areas :)

There really is little to see in Port Angeles. It is a great place to live, but it is small and not cute or quaint or tourist oriented like Port Townsend, say. It's main attraction is its proximity to the park. There is a lovely little fine arts center on Lauridsen Boulevard that is well worth visiting. It is set in the woods, and there are charming outdoor art installations scattered along a little woodland trail. It's delightful.

Ediz Hook is a good idea but not if you are an ailurophobe. There are colonies of feral cats there.

Who knew? I sure didn't. :) But I am sure that all of us this forum knew the word "ailurophobe" or, if we did not, are enlightened. LOL.

Conversely, if you are an allurophile, consider a visit to the feral cat area :-) (on the north side of Ediz Hook, just before the gates to the base).

There are interesting sculptures on all the downtown streets. There is a map / walking tour at portangelesdowntown.com/files/…20comp.pdf .

Since you are taking your car, you WILL need reservations in both directions. On the return trip, after you park your car in the waiting area, you will have time to walk around a bit and see some of the sculptures.
