Sorry, I don't know what fife is.... but I would recommend a picnic in Cades Cove. It is a valley in the park that is a driving tour with a lot of historic markers including homes, cemetaries and churchs. It is very common to see tons of wildlife here. There are plenty of spots to throw a blanket and have a picnic and at the entrance there is a picnic area with tables. We have done both before. The cades cove loop will take you about 2-3 hours and maybe longer depending on how much you get out of your car and walk to the different points of interest, plus the drive to it can easily take 1/2 your day. http://www.gsmnp.com/pages/cades_cove.html
There are other picnic spots through out the park. www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/picnic.htm
Edited: 09 February 2012, 3:13Is it possible that you selected the wrong forum???? I am not familiar with any area in the Smokies called Fife. I even did a Google search to check.
May be the worng forum but TK has given me some ideas. Thanks!
No, you're in the correct forum....I agree with tkull, Cades Cove is a great place to have a great picnic. I've never done it either but everytime wer drive thru there, there's always people out in the meadows with a blanket spread out on the ground.

The original poster may have been in the wrong forum since he/she is from the UK. But, this is a good thread. My all-time favorite romantic picnic place is along the stream about 2 miles coming out of Cades Cove going back toward Gatlinburg. We picked up sandwiches, chips, drinks & cookies at the Camp Store. Surprisingly, they were reasonably priced. We sat on a blanket by the stream, relaxed and enjoyed our time together. Sweet memory!
As you drive along the lower elevations of Rt 441 while in the park, you'll notice stone walls at some of these pull-offs, with the river rushing by just on the opposite side of that wall. When the weather is nice my wife and I head into the park and stop at just such a wall. We'll sit on that wall and eat some cold K.F.C. or sandwiches with sliced cheese and coffee. The sounds of that rushing river and food make for a really pleasent atmosphere.
