Is it worth the trip to Jersey Gardens or just shop in Manhattan.
We have a free day left for shopping and looking for our best options. We are not top end shoppers, more middles of the road price wise.
thanks

I think the idea of trying to do all your shopping in one day is not really a good one in Nyc. Shops are spread out in different areas that you'll likely be visiting for sightseeing (or might miss and you shouldn't). I'd combine shopping with your other plans. Whether to spend some time outside Manhattan in a mall is really a personal decision and partly depends on what you're looking to buy. i think for kids things or if there are certain brands like Abercrombie kids that are not available in Manhattan, then go. Have you had a look at the stores there on their website?
Stay in Manhattan.
You won't even scratch the surface during your one allocated day.
Jesey Gardens is a good option if you do want to do most of your shopping in one day ( go on the earliest bus and plan to leave late to do it all ). It is easier and cheaper to get to than Woodbury Common. It has all the major big brands that we Aussie's a charge alot for ( nikes for $20 , Levi's $40 , Gap T's for $5 )
Yes you could probably get these prices in manhattan to , but as nywhiz said the shops are spread out all over Manhattan and you will need to lug your packages with you as you site-see and travel all over the city to get to the stores you want. And if you shop like I do you will have alot to carry. ( got to love to excellent exchange rates )
The other good thing about Jersy Gardens is that it is in New Jesey so no sales tax on Clothing , in New York it is applied on clothing sales over $55.

Jersey Gardens is looking better and better, we no doubt will do some shopping in Manhattan....I love to shop.
I do have Manhattan Mall on my list, so hopefully between site seeing, we will be able to find it
It's hope the AUD stays up
thanks

Edited: 14 February 2012, 12:56Manhattan mall is very small. We really don't have malls in manhattan, the whole place is a mall. Most areas have retail on the ground floor.
Macy's and Bloomingdales offer a limited 11% discount for out of area travellers. Visit customer service with photo id with your address on it for your card. Century 21 is a small local chain of discount stores that is also good.
Manhattan Mall doesn't really have very much in it - it is a pretty poor shopping experience. Century 21 and Macy's are much better.
If you want real shopping, Woodbury Common is the place.
I find Jersey Gardens downright tragic and depressing. I always leave extremely disappointed. Woodbury Common is a million times better.
Thanks,
Had not heard of Woodbury Common.......is it common lol
Will start re-searching
A quick search of the forum will reveal it is quite possibly one of the most popular day trips out of New York City for ex-U.S. visitors.
Woodbury Common is quite possibly one of the largest outlet malls in the U.S. - it has everything.
I find that Jersey Gardens really only has things in sizes nobody else can sell. If you're not looking for a 3x XL, you may be a bit disappointed with Jersey Gardens. Woodbury Common has the high-end stores and they have all the sizes and everything. Have a look and see whether it looks appealing to you before you commit to the trip.
