 Days hotel broadway, worried!!

Hello,

I am staying at the above location for 8 days starting this Sunday. I am not expecting this to be swanky or particularly nice just somewhere cheap and safe to sleep. It is in a good location and we got a very good deal.

Although the latest review here on TA states this is an illegal hotel. Can anyone confirm this? I found this unlikely as it is a chain and I have spoken to days inn directly. The review states that there was a fire on feb 2nd, can anyone confirm? Wouldn't the hotel shut if there was a fire. The review also states there is a bouncer/security on the 12th floor that pushed their friends out of the hotel.

This all seems very strange for a chain hotel company but has still worried me. Can anybody help? I would really appreciate it.

I am assuming you mean the one run by a well-known national hotel chain, Days Inn, on W. 94 St, near Broadway. How can it be illegal if it is a hotel? It is in a nice neighborhood, two inches from an express subway station and at a bus stop down Broadway.

It is part of a major US hotel chain with very nice but not ultra fancy hotels. I have stayed in a number of them, none of which were "illegal" and all of which were very pleasant. I would not worry.

This is illegal. It's an SRO and they've been trying to push tenants out. I wouldn't stay there. Here's the link on the bldg. dept. website.

I can tell you that there IS a partial stop work order on the building for improper construction, and that there are a LOT of complaints currently lodged about residential apartments being illegally converted to hotel rooms. It's very hard to tell from the C of O what the current designation of the building is, but in 1974 (the latest one I see online) it was classed as a Class A residential building.

NorthofDC, there are LOTS of illegal hotels in New York City. Illegal hotels were a major factor in the strengthening of laws last May that cover renting out residential buildings as short term. Being in a "nice neighborhood" does not prevent people from illegally converting residential buildings into hotels - in fact it gives them more incentive to do so. It would be nice if national chains did not do such things, but being well known is not a guarantee.

I could try to ring Expedia tomorrow, do you think they would be able to help?

I also have the number for the hotel directly?

When it states above tennants are being pushed out, do you mean tennants that live in the apartments or people staying at the hotel?

Thanks again.
