Once again: Tea rooms in St Helier?

Hello and greetings from Denmark

I made a search in the forums to read previous answer to the Tea Rooms question.

I am wondering if there are more or new tea rooms in St Helier besides Chateau La Chaire... Aren't afternoon teas popular in Jersey?

Thank you very much!

Cheers

Oscar

The general food on offer can be fantastic especially cakes from when I was there so really any indpendent place may do because when we were there we basically had good food wherever we went including jersey zoo.

I can't think of anywhere specific I'm afraid but sometimes you can just go by your nose. Also, be warned you may see british banks over there but the like hood is you won't be able to access your uk bank account over the counter like I discovered and also it might use the uk currency but be warned debit card companies are likely to charge you for using debit and possibly credit cards over there as it'll count as an international transaction.

There's the Vintage Tea Room on Colomberie in town, but there's other

places to have a nice afternoon tea that aren't actually Tea Rooms, including many of the upmarket hotels.

Chateau la Chaire is actually a bit out of St. Helier, it's at Rozel in St. Martin. If you're wanting something in town (or close to it) Longueville Manor would probably be my first choice, but you've also got the Pomme d'Or and Grand Hotel. In St. Brelade there's the Atlantic and L'Horizon. I'm sure there'll be many more too.

Other places will have a great selection of cakes and sandwiches, so although maybe not the traditional 'Afternoon tea' you can still have something tasty!

jdtaylor: The problem with the banks is that some of them are offshore divisions of UK companies, so not technically the same bank. Confusing, I know! ATMs use the link system so no charges there. There may be a charge for using Debit or Credit cards at ATMs, but there's no charge for in-store purchases on a UK card.

There is a nice choice of fine places: I checked their websites.

Thanks again for your help!

Seconding JerseyBaby, you'll never be charged to use your debit card in a shop, or to take money out of the ATM unless it is one of those silly ones within a shop or a pub that warn you of it first.

I lived here for 5 years before I moved my bank accounts 'offshore' and never had a problem or a charge.

That's odd as when I was over I think it was a good few years ago Natwest at the time did charge.
