 Jersey Stag Do

Hello there,

A friend of mine is getting married soon, and as Best man I have to organise the Stag Do.

One of the areas we were thinking of going to is Jersey. Although the Stag party are still of relatively young years (ranging from approx. 25 up to approx. 40) I think we'd all appreciate the natural beauty and history of the island. I think most of us are a bit long in the tooth for Amsterdam, or Newquay.

What I was wondering though, is if anyone can suggest some cheap accomodation that would be willing to cater for around 15 people (I appreciate Stag parties are not always welcome in some areas), and some activities we could do.

Ideally, we would like to do something like clay pigeon shooting, and maybe some 4x4 off-roading. Go karting or quad biking are also an option.

Time is ticking by fast, so any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Perhaps try the Mayfair hotel, it is in the centre of town and should be

a good price.

There is clay pigeon shooting and many other outdoor events, for full

details of all of these, you should contact Jersey Tourism.

Not many hotels will take all male parties, but it's worth asking around anyway as some will do it so long as you pay a credit card deposit and allocate a 'boss' (usually the best man!) to liase with the hotel if required and keep an eye on everyone.

Try the Mayfair, give the Morvans Hotel groups a call and then some of the lower end hotels like the Stafford and Sandranne. Not super cheap but worth considering when taking into account they allow 3 adults to a room is the Radisson on the waterfront.

As for things to do you are literally spoiled for choice! If I were you I would avoid the likes of clay pigeon shooting and go karting that you can do anywhere. Look at Blo-Karting, Coasteering, Jet Ski Safari, Kayaking or maybe taking a RIB out to the Echrihous or Minkies :)

The correct spelling for the offshore reefs as used by us locals is Les Minquiers and Les Ecrehous

God Forbid I try and get a quick answer out and promote local companies without first referring to the dictionary.

What time's the next boat?

I totally agree with you Bectoria. Who cares if you wrote Les Minquiers or the Minkies, we all know exactly where you meant and certainly it would make it easier for the visitor to make it clear where he wanted to visit.

Thank You Bob. I may not be local but I have spent the 7 years I've lived here promoting Jersey (and Guernsey!) to visitors and potential visitors both in my professional and personal life. I don't have to spend my free time on Tripadvisor answering the questions of would be holidaymakers but I do it because I love the Island and hate to see the tourism industry in decline.

It really riles me when locals undermine my efforts like that. Perhaps if some people spent more time promoting their beautiful home themselves, and less time whinging about everything my job would be easier. I sometimes think that some beans (my other half included!) should spend a year living in a deprived area of the UK and then come back and think themselves lucky!! ;)

Dont do your stag do in Jersey. As a resident here i can tell you now that after one night you will be bored. Every night in town is the same. Few pubs, Chambers, Platinum/Mint.

We have go karts but they are electric and rubbish, Paintball is ok, Dont think we have quad biking. There seriously isnt a lot to do, I have friends visit alot from the UK and i struggle to show them anything exciting other than go round looking at bunkers.

I have to do a stag do next year and have just been told that we are not allowed to go abroad. So i have to try and have fun in either Jersey or Guernsey. It'll be the worst stag do ever.

If i were you i would plan to go somewhere out in eastern europe. Cheap flights, cheap accomodation, cheap booze and best of all strip clubs!

Dear god it's a poor state of affairs if you can't have a good time without a strip club. It's no wonder you're 'not allowed' to go abroad. Doesn't bode well for the marriage!!

I suggest next time your friends are over you pop into Tourism, pick up Jersey Weekly or just switch your imagination on. Barely a weekend goes by without SOMETHING happening on the island if you're prepared to open your eyes and ears and perhaps try something out of your comfort zone.

Besides all of that, surely half of what makes a good time is who you're with rather than where you are. If you friends are dull I can't really help.

It's not all about strip clubs. I go on the Jersey websites all the time to see whats going on at the weekends, so we dont end up just sitting on the beach or in the pub.

I'm not argueing that there is nothing to do, i'm making a point that there isnt a lot of 'Stag Do' activities. I couldnt imagine anyone wanting to go to Elizabeth Castle or the Amaizin Maze as part of their stag do.

No need for the little 'your friends are dull' remark either. Alot of the weekend 'stuff to do' on the jersey website are aimed at families or the elderly other than Grass Roots and Jersey Live.

I apologise for the last remark - it was a step too far.

Not everything that happens here is aimed at the very young or the very old - this week is both Spring Walking Week & the Jersey Food Festival. Both of those things are suitable for all ages. Ever done the 'Murder Muck & Mayhem' Ghost walk, or been guided out to Seymour Tower at low tide?

Over the summer there are seafood festivals, seaside festivals, fetes, the west show, the boat show etc etc. Then there's Battle of Flowers and Battle of Britain. You can get to Guernsey, Sark or St Malo easily for the day.

As for the stag do - everything I mentioned was relevant, not to mention Creepy Valley aerial assault, paint balling & go-karting that could be done anywhere else too.

I'm 27 with a group of friends from mid 20s to mid 30s. I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I was bored here. Don't write things off because they don't seem aimed at you - get out there and have a go anyway, you might be suprised! :)
