I will be staying with a group of people in Deadwood from October 7th-10th. Are there any recommendations of what not to miss while we are there?

We'll send you updates with the latest deals, reviews and articles for Deadwood each week.
Deadwood has the casinos, of course, along with western historical attractions. You will find Saloon #10, the Adams House/Museum, and Mt Moriah Cemetery where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried.
Nearby, you have Spearfish Canyon, which should be quite pretty that time of year. You could combine this with a trip out to Devil's Tower. It's only about an hour or so from Deadwood.
Are you looking to venture outside the Deadwood area? The central region is really the heart of the hills. Deadwood averages about an hour from the major Black Hills attractions such as Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park and the caves. The Badlands would be further away...about 2 hours.
If you haven't already done so, I'd order a travel planner from travelsd.com
Have a great trip, and feel free to ask additional questions.
