Planning a trip to Charlotte on our way to the Darlington Race. This will be the first weekend in May. Wanting to go to the Race Shops. Looks like the recommended and time saving way is to take tours. Any suggestions to which ones are the best? Also plan on visiting the Hall of Fame. I see they have a tour also, any comments? Any recommendations are appreciated.
For Nascar Hall of Fame - if you sign up; you might get some discounts...(or Groupon?) You could do it on your own..
You can find a tour guide for race shop tours (search for NASCAR Race Shop Tours) or pick a couple and do it on your own. Here's a link to info about the various shops: http://www.raceshops.com/
We went a couple years ago and went to the Gibbs and Hendricks shops. The Gibbs shop has a great viewing gallery of the shop floor and the Hendricks shop has their own museum that is worthwhile.
Also if you have kids, you might want to stop by the Concord Mills Mall NASCAR Speedpark. 5 go cart tracks at a reasonable price.
The Hiltron Garden Inn uptown, which is next door to the Hall of Fame, often has packages that include the Fall of Fame, and sometimes Richard Petty's driving experience at the track. They might have some that include the shops. I'd check with them.
