 community music projects?

Hi

I'm going to be visiting Uganda for 3 weeks in August with my husband and 13-year old son. We'd love to make a connection with a community-based project or two as part of our trip. Also, I run community choirs in the UK, teaching songs from different cultures - it would be great if I could find somewhere where I could learn some traditional songs (and teach some in return if there's interest). Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks, Janet

The Nkoringo Youth Initiative sounds pretty perfect for you. Aim is to teach the need for tourism, conservation and male female equality (doubtless amongst a host of others. We were there 10 days ago and an evening performance by 30 of them to three of us was moving, emotional, delightful and a true highlight of our trip. They are based in the village next to Nkoringo Campsite (which has two lovely, low cost cottages and great facilities). Can get to their contact detail if you need (or at least the organiser).I reckon your input would be welcome. Just in case youe geography needs help they are about 15 kilometers (5 hours walk! or 5 hours drive! from "downtown" Buhoma). I heartily recommend you take a look, very special!
