“ Selous safari in December ”

I am traveling to Tanzania in late December/early January this year and am planning on going to Zanzibar [4 days] and on safari in Northern Tanzania (Arusha [1 day], Tarangire[1day], Lake Manyara [half day], Serengeti [3 days], Ngorongoro [1 day]).

I wanted to know if it may be worth cutting my visit to Zanzibar a little shorter and dropping the safari in Tarangire in order to add two full days in Selous. Anyone know if Selous is a good park for safari in late December?

Selous is a wonderful park, however Dec/Jan is not only hot (and no a/c at camps/tents/lodges) but also very humid. Air is so "close" you can't breath... you feel wasted even if doing nothing. Selous is best visited in the dry season.

rather than visit the Selous (very hot) and dropping Tarangire I would add an extra day there and try and see that properly maybe overnight at Manyara as well and then you have the 2 days you wish to take off Zanzibar. Remember a day or at least half can be wasted in the air travel to the Selous and not worth it for just for 2 days.

In my views, it worth visiting selous in December for 2days by flying in (about 45minutes from Dar es Salaam) and 3days by driving (about 4-5hrs driving via Kilwa Road), with the normal short rain in November/December in Tanzania, i guess the wether won't be bad in December otherwisw if you have any restrictions. In selous you can do walking, boat safari and game drives, the choice is yours.
