Congratulations! Yes, even before the term existed people were still taking that special trip....and again before they became a family of four...and maybe again before a family of 5:)
The Skytop Lodge in Skytop, Pa is about 3 hours from Huntington Station.
Just brainstorming...you might look into The Sagamore in Bolton Landing further upstate and The Otesaga in Cooperstown, which are great historic accommodations. I did a quick look at mapquest and the drive from Huntington Station to Bolton Landing is about 5 1/2 hours; to Cooperstown, about 6. The mileage is further than to New Paltz but highway driving seems to make it take less time than one would expect. The distance is further...but might be worth it to you. Cooperstown is quiet in the winter so the rates might be more affordable then. The Sagamore is busy in the summer...don't know about the winter.
Also, the Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs; maybe the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck (now that's a little over 4 hours);
Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford Springs PA is about 6 hours away too and was just redone and reopened about a year ago. You might check reviews on how it's doing once it got its kinks out.
The Inn and Leola Village has been nice and in the lovely Pa. Amish setting...and closer location and does have a day spa and massage.
These are ones we have really enjoyed ...or a couple are on our short list because friends have highly recommended them.
Look them up for yourself and see what you think.
Let us know how it goes.
