“ Hither Hills -First time camper questions ”

Can anyone suggest some beach camping essentials ? I'm camping for the first time this weekend (June 2011). I've got a small tent,air mattress, sleeping bag , and folding chairs and will be driving out to Montauk .

Is there a place to rent bicycles in the park ?

Also is there a place to charge Cell phones -or do you just charge it in your car ?

What about food - are there some cheap places for breakfast within hither hills ? I heard there was a convenince store - does it sell breakfast food ?

And BBQ - I plan to bring a mini one and cook some of my meals on it. Does anyone know if propane gas is allowed in the park ,or do you have to use charcoal ?

Looks like you have most of the essentials. I would do a grocery shop before heading out there as the convenience store/IGA can be a bit pricy. Don't forget the cooler either.

No bike rentals.

You can charge your cell phone in the outlets by the bathroom (though service can be spotty out there).

The convenience store is the only food option in Hither Hills. They do breakfast sandwiches/coffee etc.

Propane gas is allowed in the park (and is sold at the store).

You'll need a tarp incase it rains, maybe a screened-in tent for your food area.(at times it can be buggy) At HH you can't put up a clothes line, so you may want to bring a drying rack to dry your towels on.

You can rent bikes in town at 2 rental places.

There's John's pancakes in town and a great bakery for breakfast. The general store at hither hills makes great egg sandwiches and various other hot breakfast specials.
