Lansing forum Although this isn't specifically a travel question, I have a daughter who is moving to Lansing (young professional, college grad) and would love some suggestions for an apartment complex that is well-run and not a college complex. Any ideas?

There aren't a ton of really nice apartment complexes in Lansing because housing is so cheap, it doesn't make sense to build expensive apartments.
If you are looking to get away from the students, look to the West Side of town. There are several apartment complexes located on Canal Rd. north and south of Saginaw Highway M-43). Canal Rd is near the I-496 and I-96 interchange.
A few years ago they built some nice looking apartments on Saginaw Hwy., a couple of miles east of Grand Ledge. I think they are called Village Place or the development by it is called Village Place. The only downside is they are a little far out. If your daughter is going to be working downtown, it would be a 20 minute commute from these apartments, which is considered a long commute for Lansing.
Best of luck to your daughter. I think she will end up liking Lansing. I moved here from Ohio 10 years ago and have liked living here. Be careful, though, she may end up rooting for the Spartans!
I messed up in giving you the name of the apartment complex in Grand Ledge. It is actually called Townsend on the Park, not Village Place. Village Place is the name of the subdivision behind Townsend on the Park.

I laughed about your "rooting for the Spartans" comment; since she's a Michigan grad, I don't see her wearing green anytime soon :)
Check out Aspen Lakes. It's actually in nearby Holt, but it's a very nice complex. I graduated from MSU and my wife and I work in the area. It's also very dog friendly.

I would throw my vote for Canal Club also...They do have 2 properties which are located off from Canal Road. We lived at Canal Club for almost 3 years and it was time well spent.
