We are going to Chicago and planning to visit a relative in Lansing Michigan. We were thinking about spending some time in Michigan but need advice. We dont want to drive more than about three hours.

When would you be traveling to MI? That would help a lot in letting you know more about each area of GR and Lansing.
We will be going around the 7th of June.
If you are visiting a family member in Lansing, I would stay in Lansing, East Lansing or Okemos. The Michigan State University campus is stunning in the summer. Botanical gardens are everywhere and the children's garden is a lot of fun. The State Capitol is beautiful and worthy of a tour. The Michigan Historical Museum will give you a good taste of Michigan history and is a lot of fun!
As for hotel recommendations, my favorite hotel has got to be Kellogg Center right on the MSU campus. It is run through the MSU school of hospitality. It is a beautiful hotel that provides wonderful views of the campus.
Enjoy! Moms
Thanks a lot that is great information! I would have never found out about the University by myself.
No problem. I think you would have found out about the University as soon as you arrived in Lansing. It is a major industry in the Lansing area and a major source of culture and entertainment in the area. I'm glad you found out about it now though as it is fun to plan things to do around campus. I'll search the forum for an earlier post regarding all there is to do in Lansing. I think it is from last summer. I'll get back to you.
Enjoy Chicago, a great city, and the Lansing area. Moms
Found it! It wasn't on the forum but on the Things to Do section. Enjoy!

Moms
thanks very much!
After this post (I have seen others like it) I think I will make plans to stay on the MSU campus and see the things we have not seen down there. :)
