belfast july 22nd-26th 2011 boat trips?

My 75yo mother and I will be based in Belfast but looking for boat trips that offer scenes of the coast line and homes, small towns not looking for nature trips. Also, what days trips can you suggest that might have lake boat trips and cute towns to shop in??? This is are 3rd time to Maine but we have not been in this area before and love Maine so much my mom gave up Europe to go to Maine!

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Maine

I'd check out the website for Penobscot Bay Cruises. They appear to offer a couple of different local cruises on an historic steamboat.

Another interesting day trip for "lake boat trips and cute towns to shop in" would be to take a ride over to Belgrade, a small lakeside community just northwest of Augusta. The Belgrade Lakes post office still delivers mail to lakeside homes/camps/cottages via mail-boat.....and the person who operates the route under a contract with the postal service historically has offered a ride-along feature for the public at a very reasonable cost. We've done it a few times over the years -- historically has been a pontoon-type boat with a capacity of ten or twelve people; bring your own water/soda or even lunch (might check on that first). But it will give you a close-up perspective of lakeside properties as you visit the mailboxes on the ends of their docks.....gets you out on the water for several hours, but a great way to see the area!

The Belfast harbor scene has changed a lot this season, with both power and sail offerings right on Belfast Bay.

Cruise on the 149 passenger steam ferry Patience for either 1 1/2 Hour Harbor Cruises or 1½ Hour Sunset Cruises.

Sail on the Miss Nina if a sailboat is your style. This elegant 61’ wooden pilothouse ketch is a special treat. Cap't Dan and wife Amy customize the experience to you.

Lucky you for staying in Belfast. My hubbie and I stayed at a wonderful B&B last September and on the owner's recommendation we went to Youngs Lobster Pound and had a fantastic experience eating maine lobster. Shame you have already booked your accommodation. There is also a great tourist office in town with very well-informed volunteers, so I am sure you will find a great boat trip.
