Kansas City forum Hi,
We are driving from Chicago to Kansas City next June. I have been told the journey takes 8-9hours?
We are looking for a stop-off point to break up the journey - somewhere where we can stay for 1 or 2 nights, which is suitable for a toddler. E.g hotel with pool/on one of the lakes etc?
Any suggestions welcome! :)
Des Moines is about the half way mark and there are plenty of things to see there. You may want to consider a stop there.
I haven't personally been to a childrens museum there, but I am sure they have one for your toddler.
The kansas city missouri forum is a little more active-why don't you post there
Or the Iowa forum, which is the state you are looking at.
i drive it 4-5 x per year....i take 57 s to 70 & 70 all the way taking the bypass around st louis...the only time we've stopped was in springfield & i don't think your toddler is going to be too impressed with that! St Louis has lots of fun looking hotels on the bypass...theres a casino that way too....also lots of exits with lakes, etc...you might find something there....
we leave bright & early & stop at tuscola for breakfast at the dennys diner....theres an outlet mall there too.....the giant cross is at the intersecton of 70 & 57 and makes for some good conversation....lots in the town of effingham right there too....st louis has the arch and its an attraction of its own...have to go thru town for that one...

I-70 across Missouri is a horrible road, I would not go that way between Chicago and KC.
