Thought I'd try to share a little trip report from our week in Perdido Key. We had a fantastic week down there and I'm already sad to be away!
We rented a condo at the Beach and Yacht Club in Perdido Key. We loved it! The condo was so nice and comfortable; pool was great (but chilly sometimes); buildings and club house/exercise room were well maintained. The beach was fabulous and never crowded! I could not get over how clear and beautiful the water was. Just a fabulous place to stay...
We enjoyed picking up steamed crab legs and shrimp from Nix Brothers Seafood Market (Perdido Key) and Blalocks in Orange Beach--both very good.
Restaurants we visited on this trip: Shrimp Basket in Perdido Key and Louisiana Lagniappe in Orange Beach. Shrimp Basket---good food, moderate prices. We went early for lunch one day and had no wait to be seated. Another evening, we got there during a crowded time so ended up ordering our food to go. Worked out well.
My new favorite restaurant is Louisiana Lagniappe. SOOO good! We went twice, and I will say, it's pricey. I don't know that we'll have 2 visits there on future trips, but I'm so glad we tried it out this time! I had grouper one night and stuffed shrimp another and got to sample some key lime pie. My husband had red beans and rice once and shrimp & grits another night. Everything was fabulous!
We visited the Pensacola Naval Museum several times on this trip (I posted other posts on this topic last week!). This museum is fabulous and FREE! It's also a very short drive from Perdido Key. My favorite thing, though, was seeing the Blue Angels practice on Wed. morning--truly amazing! We will be back to see them on future trips. Our 5 year old enjoyed being able to climb in so many of the cockpits and liked the indoor playground as well.
This place was our first activity of the trip on a rainy Sunday morning, and that was such a life saver. We had a horrible drive down on Saturday (stuck in traffic for 3 hours once we hit the AL line on Highway 98 until we got to the Loxley exit on I-10; wreck right at the Loxley exit), and then it was raining on top of that. We woke up to rain on Sunday morning and were about to have major vacation depression--the museum made everything better.
Shopped at the outlet mall in Foley twice. Went on a Tuesday evening and it was like a ghost town--great! Went back on a rainy Friday and it was very crowded, but still had a good time shopping.
We left yesterday at 9:00 and had no problems getting to and across the bay bridge and through the tunnel--very nice change of pace, considering how we started off the week before. We used the Foley Beach express arriving and departing.
We did see a wreck right next to us on the bay bridge yesterday (mini-van rear-ended SUV in the left lane). It was scary to watch it all happen and hope that we were not about to be hit in the process--a 3rd car swerved in front of us to avoid hitting the mini-van. Luckily, we were not hit, and we had to keep moving to avoid more wrecks. I must admit, we were thankful that we did not get stuck behind all that. I encourage people to slow down and really pay attention to what's going on around you. Traffic slows quite a bit in that area.
We had a fabulous week and I'm ready to go back--wish I could have just stayed another week! I'll be looking forward to next summer!
