Help me with rides at US Island of Adventure

We are going to FL for spring break and are thinking about doing Island of Adventure as one of the theme parks. My son is very excited about the Harry Potter attraction, but I am not so sure if my daughter will have much fun there because it seems that the rides are geared more towards older children. She is 6 and my son is 10. He does like the more "thrilling" rides, but my daughter on the other hand gets scared really easy and will not go on rides that have drops in them (roller coasters, water log rides, etc...).

I am looking at the rides on the website and am hoping someone here can give me some additional info about some of the rides. Please let me know if any of these rides have any drops in them or would otherwise be scary for a 6 year old. Some of them she may even be to short for anyway. Trying to decide if we should skip over this park this year. Any advice would be helpful!

HP & Forbidden Journey- Says you soar above castle etc... Is this anything like Soarin' at Epcot? Are there any types of drops in the ride?

Flight of the Hippogriff- It is a roller coaster, so I assume that there are drops?? Not sure she is even tall enough for this one.

Amazing Adventures of Spider Man- Can anyone tell me exactly what this ride is like? I just assumed that it was a simulated 3D show where the car you are sitting in moves up/down and sideways to the show you are watching, but it is under the "thrilling" category.

Jurassic Park River Adventure

Thanks so much!

Not sure what the height requirement is for the Forbidden Journey, but I would think it's pretty intense for a six year old. It's a mixture of movement and simulation, however the movement is quite strong and there's a lot of swooping. In Spiderman, the cars don't move too much but the simulation involves a lot of sudden swoops and dives. I would say it's a fantastic ride but fairly thrilling. Jurassic Park is a lovely quiet ride through Jurassic surroundings, but has plunge at the end which isn't too intense. There are lots of other things in IOA. If you get a park to park ticket you could just spend a short time in IOA, then walk over to Universal Studios. Hope this helps.

Check out the rides on you tube. Personally I think the drop on Jurassic flume ride is quite big. (I won't do it, I don't do drops.)

here are the height requirements.

Forbidden Journey height restrictions are 48"

Its similar to Soarin in that you surrounded by a projection screen but the parts when not in front of the screens the vehicle moves around alot. It doesnt go upside down but you are tilted onto your back

Flight of the Hippogriff is a tame kids rollercoaster. If you ever rode Goofys Barnstormer at Magic Kingdom then its like that

My 5 year old son went on Spiderman no problem, the car moves around a lot but it is not too extreme

Our 8 year old daughter was too small to ride Forbidden Journey, the other 2 rides in the Harry Potter section are both coasters with one being the old Dueling Dragons roller coaster. The entire Zeuss Landing area will be ideal for both kids, with Cat in the Hat ride which spins a bit but is not too bad, 1 fish 2 fish red fish blue fish which you can get wet on, a carousel and the sky ride which is just a ride around above the Zeuss area.

Marvel Island has The Hulk Coaster, Dr.Dooms fearfall, Storm force, which is a tea cup sort of ride and Spiderman 3-D which as explained before is a good ride which doesnt move to much but has visual effects which make you feel like you are falling at times.

Then you have a couple of water rides, and The Jurassic Park area which is fun for kids, with a playground and a dinosaur institute where they can see a baby Velociraptor being born from an egg and other dinosaur things to keep them occupied. Then there is the Pteradon Flyers and the Jurassic Park ride which has a drop at the end.

Hope this helps

We just got back today. My daughter (13) and her friend (11) are big Harry potter fans. They couldn't wait for the rides and shops. They are scaredy cats though. I didn't preface the main Harry Potter ride with warnings or what I read on TA. I am prone to motion sickness and opted out. The other parents were not prone so they went. One of the moms came out of it purple and blue. She said she never gets sick but the ride made her not want to do any more rides for the rest of the trip. She was shaken. The kids on the other hand loved it and didn't get sick. However, they were rattled enough to not want to do the other Harry Potter rides! We just did the shops. I don't think this will be suitable for your 6 year old but your son will be in heaven! Be prepared to wait 1-1.5 hours to get into ollivanders, the wand store! Have fun. You will be wowed by the attention to detail.

The Forbidden Journey was something I'd looked forward to for a long time, but I absolutely hated it. Too jerky, too fast, too many sudden moves for me. And the spiders! No, never again for me, although I WILL go through the castle, all the way to the ride...then I'll chicken out. the castle is really something to see, and it's perfectly alright to bow out at the end.
