An activity and dining in Orlando for an afternoon/evening

My husband and I will arrive in Orlando next Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Our following two days will be spent at the Universal parks and our hotel is also already booked close to the park. We'll have a rental car, so getting around isn't a problem.

So, we're basically just looking for what we should do with the remainder of just that first afternoon and evening in the Orlando area.

When we travel, we love to eat at places where the locals love to eat. As far as activities go though, we wouldn't mind hitting a touristy spot or two. Whatever time might permit really.

We'll be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

Sorry no one has responded to this yet, so hope you haven't left already.

Since you're staying near Universal, you'll likely also be near the north end of I-Drive. There are several unique places to dine along that stretch of road, along with several well-known chain restaurants.

On the very north end of I-Drive, there is Orlando Premium Outlets if you prefer to spend some time shopping.

If you are a fan, you might want to check out the Titanic Exhibit on I-Drive as well; they also offer a dinner experience:

You can shop and have an early dinner at Emeril's at City Walk. Emeril's was excellent. The shrimp and grits were to die for.

We caught the 6pm Blue Man Group Show. The theater is a one minute walk from Emeril's.

If you're staying at a universal hotel, take the water taxi. It's so convenient and nice. It's complimentary.
