 Tigers nest - solo trek?

Heloo Bhutan experts.

I am travelling to Bhutan later this month. I will be travelling solo and without any tour operators. Also I will be travelling on my bike.

(I am an Indian citizen)

Now my questions is, can I do the trek to Tigers nest on my own? Is the path easy to follow? No worries about getting lost etc?

And another thing, I also plan to carry my camping gear (tent, sleeping bag etc) - so after trekking to tiger's nest, I plan to trek up to Ugyen Tsemo and camp there for the night.

Just want to know if this all sounds feasible?

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Bhutan

You can go up to Tiger's nest without any problem, the path is clear and full of tourists, no way you can get lost. just take your time to breath, and to admire the surroundings, and go up to the Monastry, no need for permits anymore.

About your plan for trekking to Uguen Tsemo, I cannot help you, but hopefully one of the locals will see your question and answer it.

Enjoy your trip.

Up to the Tigers Nest monastery, there won't be any problem. There is no confusing path leading to it and also you can follow other tourist too.

For the camping to Ugyen Tsemo, I would recommend contacting your hotel staff in Paro when you reach there or arrange through a local trekking company.

@ bhutantashi: thanks. I have read a lot of travelogues where people have described camping at UgyenTsemo, and also seen a lot of tour operators' itinerary describing trek to tigers nest and then overnight camping at Ugyen Tsemo, so I know its done. But the problem is I don't know if camping independently is permitted or not. Since except Indians, other tourist cannot travel independently, and Indians mostly prefering to stay in hotels, I guess this situation of a Indian looking to camp independently hasn't really arised too many times before and hence the confusion. I wouldn;t want to do anything against the regulations and thats the reason I'm trying to confirm if it can work out.

We just got back from Bhutan and it was the most beautiful place I have visited so far! It is very easy to follow the path to Tiger's Nest. Fantastic views! Best to contact the travel agencies in Bhutan regarding the camping. Happy travels!
