 Itinerary and Where to Stay

Hello, My family and I will be traveling to Brisbane next month and I am hoping to get some help finding accommodations. We are flying into Brisbane Airport and we plan on visiting the Australia Zoo, Stradbroke Island, and spending a day at Surfer's Paradise and seeing the Australian Outback Spectacular show. In which areas of Brisbane should I look to find accommodations that would be centrally located to all these locations? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

G'day slemj, The most central to these locations is going to be Brisbane city. Consider Sothbank if you have kids as there is a lagoon they can play in as well as a great amount of parkland.

Also have a look at

www.wotif.com.au

You can catch the airtrain from the airport to the city, but if there are a few of you then consider a taxi as it will be cheaper.

There is the croc express that picks up from most hotels in the city

grayline.info/brochures/…20Express.pdf

You can take public transport and it will be cheaper have a look on the Australia Zoo website for details

Hope this helps

Hi slemj. All of those places to visit are great pics. However, they're not really that close to each other. How long are you planning to stay in Brisbane, or the South East Corner of Queensland for?

Hi!

Could you Tell us how long you are coming for please as that will help. Is there a particular reason why you need to stay in Brisbane? I live here but to be honest there's not that much to see compared to the gold and sunshine coasts..my suggestion would be to stay in Brisbane CBD or southbank for a couple of days- it will take you one day to see Brisbane city and southbank, a day to take a day trip to Australia zoo and a day to take a trip to stradbroke island ( again is there a particular reason for stradbroke as its expensive to get to and no different really to the coast unless you really do want to see it of course).

Then I'd spend the rest of my nights at the gold coast at surfers paradise. They have great kid friendly resorts and everything is nearby.

Brisbane isn't really a good place for public transport so u really would need to stay in CBD or southbank which are right next to each other on opposite sides of the Brisbane river. The gold coast is the same but from surfers you can easily get day trips to wherever you want to go. You could also go to south stradbroke island from the gold coast, as oppose to north stradbroke from Brisbane. Also the ferry to north stradbroke leaves from redland bay about a 45 min train ride from the Brisbane CBD. All just items that may be of interest!

Have a great time and feel free to ask for more info!

Hi slemj

The Ferry to North Stradbroke island does not depart from Redland Bay. The ferries depart from Cleveland. See websites for Stradbroke Ferries or the Stradbroke Flyer Gold Cats.

North Stradbroke Island is very different to the Gold Coast, much more relaxed, with the most wonderful natural beauty and walks around the gorge at Point Lookout.

I'd also recommend Moreton Island, which is mostly a National Park, with a diverse natural environment.

Brisbane is a good place for public transport and www.translink.com.au provides a journey planner and information on fares etc.

I'd also consider going to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary www.koala.net as it's in Brisbane and can be reached by ferry up the Brisbane River.

Look for accommodation on the site given by Oscarpebbles, suggest the Central City area or Southbank when based in Brisbane. Oaks apartments have several properties around the inner city area.

Have a wonderful stay in Brisbane

Well see everyone has different opinions :)

Of course the ferry leaves from Cleveland sorry got mixed up with the rest of the ferries which leave from Redland bay about ten minutes down the road. Cleveland is better the train goes directly to Cleveland and you only have to make your way to the ferry. I don't agree about stradbroke..it is nice but if I was coming from overseas unless I was here for a really long time I'd give it a miss especially with the gold coast nearby- but as I said if its something you really want to see go for it it'll be a nice day out.

We have buses and trains in Brisbane but don't think our public transport system is anything like the good ones in major cities overseas- or even in places like Melbourne! But like I said it will get you to Cleveland and will get you around eventually..oh and we have the citycat ferries too down the Brisbane river- id suggest going for a nice trip on that to get a view of Brisbane - its lovely for a day out. You could jump on at the city and go down to Hawthorne or bulimia, get off and have some niceunch at a cafe then get back on.. Just an idea I just thought of! Have fun planning!! :)

Thats funny Wyfee re: the transport. Sydneysiders and Melbournians often ridicule their own public transport systems on these forums as well. Now if you want a good transport system for your holiday then Singapore is the place. I think we get annoyed with our own cities transport systems because we use them so often and wish there was an alternative.

Thats a good point Oscar! Haha I really do think it's not great for tourist purposes though..it's pretty much focused on getting people to and from work in the city..i guess what I'm getting as is dont think it's like Asia or London or ny or something but it's ok if you need to go to one of the places the train goes for example :)

Lived in Singapore before. Melbourne is comparable in terms of innercity travel - lived there before. Brisbane has a free loop bus in the CBD but transportation gets questionable when it enters zone 1.

Point : lone pine is also accessible by bus.

May be better to rent a car to Australia zoo and drive up to Sunshine coast for an overnight stay. ALTERNATIVE : stay in Brisbane CBD and get a coach tour to Australia zoo. So that way no need to worry about transportation.

I forgot to mention - staying in the CBD means you have access to the Visitor's Information office to plan and book trips. That is in Queen St Mall. It is easier to make a base at Brisbane as you are in the midway between Beerwa and Gold coast.
