“ London to Ware (Herts) and on to Gatwick airport same day ”

Hello - we'd like to go from London to Ware,Hertfordshire in the morning on a Saturday, spend a few hours there and then go to Gatwick airport in time for a flight at 5 pm. Would appreciate advice re how to do this. (1) how much time should we budget for this trip - the map says that it is ~ 70 mils from London to Ware and ~75 miles from Ware to Gatwick airport. (2) are there trains or buses? If so, would you please post the names of the rail and bus companies (3) Can we rent a car in London and return it at Gatwick airport..
