 Getting to Cashel

I'm researching ways to get from Ennis, Co. Clare to Cashel, Co. Tipp via Buseireann. I've input that info to their webiste journey planner but it says my request for Cashel is "ambigious." The choices they give me are: Cashel Cross, Cashel School or Second Cashel Cross and (Cashel Achill which I know is not what I want).

I've used the journey planner quite a bit for my travels and found it less than helpful in situations like this when I don't have a clue. I did input those choices but I see that for each it says the bus direction is Clifden, which is in the wrong direction, isn't it? Can some kind soul enlighten me please? Thank you!

Erin

Erin, it looks like you have a bit of a long haul to get to Cashel from Ennis.

It seems mad to take over 4 hours to get there, as by car, it only takes about an hour and a half. However, with the connection delays in Limerick and Cahir, it seems unlikely that you will do the journey any faster.

Hi Bannergirl, yes it does seem mad indeed. But I'm used to traveling on Buseireann so I know to be prepared. :) Until I figured out what I was doing wrong I had the sinking feeling that I'd have to go to Dublin to get to Cashel...

for Loughrea, Southport, Clifden

I don't suppose you have Cork anywhere in your Itinerary, Cork to Cashel is only 1 1/2 hours on the No.8 Dublin bus.

By the way Erin, I wasn't insinuating that you were mad:-))

It was by way of criticising the Bus Eireann network, although there would not be much demand for an Ennis or Limerick to Cashel direct route.

Tony's suggestion is a good one too, if you had time in your itinerary to visit Cork before heading to Cashel, it would be a straightforward enough journey.

Hi again Bannergirl, I didn't take it to mean that I was mad to do that bus trip but how totally mad it is that it should take so long. Now, I may reconsider the plan, as I hadn't thought about Cork. I've been 10 times to Ireland and have visited Co. Cork but never Cork City. I'm trying to revisit the west, then make my way to a friend in Wexford. And, I'm thinking it would be easier to get to Wexford from Cork than from Cashel to Wexofrd, I could stay in Cork and take a day trip to Cashel.Probably find cheaper accomodations in Cork anyway. Lots to consider! This may be my last trip to Ireland, as I've just retired so will not have that steady paycheck and paid vacation time. So I want to see some of my favorite spots as well as something I've not seen in past visits.

Hi Tony2phones, good idea! I may rethink my plan all together. I've never been to Cork City, so I'll do some more research and route checking. Thanks for the good feedback! Erin
