The Rock of Cashel is hard to miss, it's visible for miles on the approach to the town.
We took a narrow lane from the centre of the town.
Yes, two hours is plenty of time, and if you want to eat, try Brian Boru's pub in the town cenre. I found parking a bit difficult in the town - although I'm sure locals would have a better idea of easy ways.
Note also this place is also a minor (although you may have enough time driving)detour:
Hopefully Doneraile, Clauds or Irishrover will give more detailed information should they come across your post.
As ferdia has said, it is difficult to miss the Rock of Cashel, it is pretty well in the middle of town, I would be more inclined to follow signs than worry too much about the road numbers when you get into Cashel. The centre of the town is a bit complicated, but since it is only a couple of roads you are not going to get too lost. I have never noticed the road numbers.
There is parking at the foot of the rock.
The suggestion to have a look at Cahir is also a good one, not far from Cashel and well worthwhile a visit.
brynmawr, there is absolutely no way that you could miss the Rock of Cashel. I can't find the R639 on my map but if you're coming from the R505 you're coming into Cashel from a westerly direction.
I'm working from memory here... you should get to a roundabout meeting the N8 from Cork. Take a left off this roundabout, you'll get straight onto the main street in Cashel. Keep going in the Dublin direction (Cashel Palace Hotel on your left, good food in the pantry downstairs). Follow the signs for Dublin (N8), the Rock is signposted to your left.
Anyway, if confused, just ask a local, he or she will be just too happy to give directions.
Oh, I hope I'm right about that roundabout...
Look, just don't worry, you'll find the Rock of Cashel alright!
thanks to all for your help!
