Difficult Driving Conditions, Dingle to Cashel?

Planning to leave Dingle area about 6:00 PM driving to Rock of Cashel area mid July 2009. AA Trip Planner shows 210 km and 3 hours. Suggested routing is largely N86 and N21, but with lots of on/off changes on other routes. How difficult a drive, including potential signposts missed, is this for a Yank tourist, given late sunset quote of 9:45 PM? Any recommendations on alternate routing?

Is AA routing you through Limerick? Their driving times are usually not accurate. You must add time onto their estimate.

The alternate route is by the N72 via Killarney and Mallow, but it is exactly the same distance. The N72 is a nice drive, but it is only a 2 lane road. I imagine the other road would be better, but I am not very familiar with it, I seem to recall it has good stretches of dual carriageway.

I would suggest you give yourself another hour or so if you can.
