 Walking inside Amsterdam

I am planning to visit Amsterdam in mid March. I am thinking whether I should buy the GVB 1 day pass.

Questions: how long it takes to

1. walk from Van Gogh Museum to Leidseplein?

2. walk from Leidseplein to Bloemenmarket?

3. walk from Bloemenmarket to Royal Palace?

Or it is still too cold(or rain?) in mid March to walk outside?

Thanks.

For me, I wouldn't buy a pass for that. Sitting on the tram, you miss out on seeing all the cools stuff you notice when walking.

1. 20 mins

2. 5 mins

3. 15 mins

Please do not try to second guess the weather here its practically impossible.

Check the weather before you leave and bring apporpriate clothing.

It is very easy to walk around the centre of Amsterdam, and everywhere of a touristic nature is relatively close compared to most cities in europe, so no need for trams - hubby pushes me in my wheelchair all over, without problems (including in the -11 temperatures we had last week).

As to the weather, well no one knows if it will rain, but in general, it will be warmer than last week. I had a lovely spring like visit in Feb last year and terrible wind and pouring rain in August, so just get on with it; If you need to buy a jumper and a brolle when you get there, do so and enjoy your trip.

As regards to distance - do you know that google maps have a direction function - this gives you an approx walking time and the directions to do so, and according to this:

1 - VG - Leidensplein = 11 mins and is 850m

2 - Leidenspein - Flower market = 8 mins and is 550m

3 - Flower Market - Dam Sq = 12 mins and 900m

all of above are based on walking at normal walking speed, so ambling and perusing your surroundings will add more time, but distances obviously remain the same.

Have a good trip

1. I must spend extra 10 minutes looking at the incredible outside of the Rijks.

2. I must walk fast to get the heck off Leidsestraat.

3. I spend 5 extra minutes looking at those cool plaque/tiles on the backside of the historische museum.

Never once setting foot on the tram.

Thanks all.

I have a bad experience with Google walking time that post 10min, but turn out to be 30min.

I may change the plan to visit Albert Cuyp Market after Van Gough Museum in Friday late afternoon. Anyone know how long the walking will take?

Thanks again.

I would say VGM to Albert Cuyp wold take about 20 mins.

Be aware that the market at Albert Cuyp tends to start winding down about 16.30 and is pretty well wrapped up inside an hour.

speaking of the cool back door of the historic museum..i wonder how many tourists stoll by there everyday and dont notice it tuck away back there...kind of like the side door to begijnhof.

I would suggest to walk around as much as possible because you will get a better feeling for the different atmosphere of all the streets and places.

Although I had a 24h card we did most walks by foot, you will see much more! Beside the museums and main sightseeing places for tourists there are many little shops, sometimes pretty crazy, all the "fragrant" coffee shops, the little cafes and bars and the numerous restaurants, you would miss a lot.

Only at night we went back by tram, as my feet have been hurting ...
