Hi all
Any ideas of things to do in St. Gallen?
I'll be around this winter and would love to see a few of the sights around the city and its surrounds. And where is a good place to ski near to St. Gallen?
Thanks

The not-to-be-missed top sight is the abbey complex and, most of all, the abbey's library with its amazing baroque hall and the even more amazing treasures among its books, the oldest dating from the 8th century.
Thank you for that advise. I'll be sure to check it out.
And nature orientated things to do? Any ideas?
From St Gallen it is not far to the Toggenburg. There is good skiing at the end of the valley in Unterwasser and Wildhaus. Although this is at medium elevation it does get good snow. Make no mistake you will get good skiing here.
If you go by car make sure you stop in Lichtensteig. Towards the middle of the valley there is a road to Schwägalp-Säntis, a must see. At the end of the upper valley you continue down towards the Rhine valley and Liechtenstein. (don't confuse the 2 names)

I like this valley and go there every year for a few days in Winter, this is Swiss country side at its best !

I was interested in your idea of driving to the Schwagalp pass. I will be driving from konstanz this weekend.... Is it predominantly a scenic drive and about how much time should I need? I don't plan on skiing. Are the roads safe to drive during this time of the year?
thanks,
I have not driven to road from Konstanz but the short 20 minutes drive from Nesslau in early April, the road was clear then.
I would suggest the following itinerary : From Konstanz avoid the Autobahn and use the country road to Wil and from here up the Toggenburg valley to Wattwil and Nesslau. I would estimate 1:30 hr. The whole area is scenic, flat unttill you reach Wil and then mountaineous. http://weathercam.thurcom.ch/
