Hi, my wife and I visited Tuscany last year flying from Montreal to Paris to Florence, picked up a rental car, drove to and stayed in San Gimignano, and visited many beautiful villages in Tuscany. We would like to do the same for Umbria, for a week or two. It looks like Umbria is mid way between Rome and Florence. Could you suggest whether we should fly to Rome, or Florence, hire a car and then drive to a home base in Umbria. Or should we also fly from Rome/Florence to Perugia to save some driving? We think driving from/to smaller airports, like Florence or Perugia, may be less nerve wrecking than big ones like Rome.
Much appreciated!
