 Florence and Venice

Is it possible to do a day trip to Venice from Florence?

How long is the train trip?

My party plans to fly out of Florence so we prefer to spend the night back in Florence.

Last September, the fast train between the two cities was 43 Euro p/p and took 2 hrs. www.trenitalia.com

It's conceivable, but, in my opinion, not advisable.

The fast trains start at about 08:30, and the last one out of Venice leaves at about 18:30. With the time of getting to and from stations, you are talking about over six hours in transit, to spend how much time racing around Venice?

How much time do you have in Italy? How much in Florence? I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to spend lots of time going between "A" and "B" and not having much time left to spend in either "A" or "B". I prefer to spend more time in fewer places rather than less time in more places.

2 hours one way. It's doable but not ideal.
