 Entrance into Tourist Attractions

My husband and I are arriving in Florence on May 7 and leaving on May 14, 2012. Reading up on the sights and their entrance issues, we wonder about getting advance tickets before we arrive. It appears they are for a specific date and time, and they can be oversold without refund. What is the best way to deal with this? Is there a mulit-sight ticket sold that allows entrance to several places without the long lines to get in? Do hotels arrange for entrances once you arrive?

Also, we want to take day trips to Pisa, Siena, and possibly Lucca. Are trains or busses the best way to go?

Where did you read that tickets are "oversold without refund"? If your ticket is for a particularly crowded time, you may have to wait a short time (nothing like the time you'd have to wait if you didn't have a ticket), but your ticket will be honoured.

There are two passes: The Firenze Card costs 50 Euro, lets you enter each museum or site once and is valid for 72 hours. The Amici degli Uffizi pass (a membership more than a pass) costs 100 Euro for two people, lets you enter the included museums as often as you like and is valid for a year. With either, you may have a short wait.

Thank you so much for your quick response. I'm not sure where my husband read about the oversold issue online. We will research both passes and make a decision. Thanks again.

you can also make reservations for the Uffizi and Academia and those museums have special lines for those with reservations. At the Uffizi at least (perhaps the Academia, I don't know) you don't pay in advance and if you arrive and there is no line, you just go in and get a regular ticket.

The passes let you enter a third way and in our experience meant no wait at all.
